Bradley and I hopped out of his car and sauntered towards the front door, and we awaited an answer for a few short minutes after ringing the doorbell. Loud music sounded from the other side, and colorful lights flashed through the windows. Bradley and I looked at each other for a second with confused faces, before shrugging the thought off and turning to face the door as it opened. There, our director stood in a casual outfit with a glass of expensive champagne held in his left hand.
"Ah! Bradley and Colin! What a delight to see you both here." He said enthusiastically, his voice a bit slurred. "Come on in." He motioned his hand and wobbled to the side as we both took a step inside his home, being met with a grand entryway that was filled with a large group of dancing people and blasting music. Lights flashed and on the opposite end of the room, was a DJ bobbing his head as he worked at his turntables; creating a setlist of music that made everyone in the room vibrate in positive energy.
"Welcome to my humble abode!" Our director exclaimed. I shifted uncomfortably where I'd been standing, and shoved my fists in my pockets, taking a small step back. Parties were never for me. It didn't suit me. I didn't like them. Didn't want them. Bradley seemed to take note of my odd movements and his excited smile seemed to dissolve slightly.
"It won't be too bad. Come and have some fun." He said with a gentle smile, stepping towards me. I shook my head and looked around at the massive group of people dancing around crazily to music I've never heard before. The sounds of screaming and shouting made the hairs on my arms stand.
"No way. This was supposed to be a small get-together, not a full-fledged party!" I said, loud enough for Bradley to hear over the white noise. He fixed his jacket, and stepped directly in front of me, and with warm hands; he placed them on the smalls of my upper arms and gently held them. His thumbs stroked them slowly. The noise around us had seemed to fade away as my focus became entirely on him, and it seemed as though it was just him and I alone together in the eye of the storm. I got lost in his eyes, his touch, his presence. I've never felt so captivated and mesmerized in such a way before.
It was kind of hot.
"Please. I said I'd be right by your side, didn't I? I'm not going to back down now. I promise, Colin." His soothing words sent comfort to my unnerving thoughts and calmed them. I released a soft breath I didn't know I was holding, and slowly nodded.
"Okay." Was all I said, as he took my hand in his and lead me through the crowds of people; following our director to our set destination.
Maybe things would be alright, after all.
