Alex stood at the top of the castle, which was incredibly high. With the magic protecting it, the castle didn't seem too big. But once you see it filled with magic, it was so high, you couldn't see the ground. Lucky for him, his master, Zephyr Chalupa, was a dragon. He stood on his tiptoes, Zephyr watching intently. He reached into the sky as the clouds gathered in the sky. "Do you really think I can do this?" Alex yelled over the wind.
"No, not really." Zephyr answered.
"Shut up! I'd like to see you-"
"What? You'd like to see me do this? Boy, you better watch your mouth, or else..." Zephyr trailed off, his eyes staying locked with Alex's.
"Or wha-" Alex was cut off as a beam of lightning knocked him off his feet. He fell back, almost rolling off the roof, but Zephyr caught him before he fell off the roof.
"What an idiot." Zephyr said. Zephyr was the youngest of the Masters of Powers. He was in his early twenties, and wasn't really the most excited when he was called to serve some kid who was some cocky showoff.
"Hey! I am not an idiot!" Alex argued. "I'd like to see you do better!"
"Do better? Oh, kid, you have no idea." Zephyr simply held it his hand. Another flash of lightning came upon them, but this time, the Master of Lightning caught it in a fist with no trouble. "Still think you can do better?" He asked with a smirk.
Alex frowned. "I caught more than one lightning bolt when I was helping my frie-"
"Ah ah ah ah! I don't wanna hear about the past. I wanna hear about the now. Tell me, kiddo, what's happening right now? Are you succeeding, or failing?" Zephyr looked down at him.
Alex looked away. "I guess I'm failing..."
"Good."
"What!?"
"Failing is good. It's also a part of life. If you don't fail, you can't do anything. Listen here, kid. I want you to try again, but this time, don't jump off the roof." Zephyr said, pointing the lightning bolt in the direction of the center of the stone roof. Alex huffed and went back to his training. Every time he would look back at his master, Zephyr would be stroking the bolt, silently saying how much better he was than Alex. The cheetah frowned, his eyes slightly glowing purple and yellow.
"I'll show him." Alex mumbled through gritted teeth.
"What was that? Sorry, I was too busy messing with my fresh bolt! Straight from the sky! I mean, I'm so amazing, aren't I? I can pull a beam of lightning from heavens! Ain't that cool, ki-"
"Can you shut up, Zephyr! I'm trying to concentrate he-" Another bolt of struck incredibly close to Alex, once again, knocking him to his feet. He heard the muffled laughter of a certain dragon. "SHUT UP!" Alex yelled, trying not to tear up.
"Shut up, Zephyr! I'm trying to concentrate!" Zephyr mocked, imitating Alex's whiny voice. "Oh ho! That was funny, kid! You are ridiculous! You did it once, just do it aga-" Zephyr stopped when he saw Alex with his knees to his chest, staring coldly up at the dragon. He suddenly felt bad. He was this kid's teacher, not bully. He should've been helping him with his bolt catching instead of mocking him for not getting it the first try. Just because he had gotten it the first time when he was a little drake, doesn't mean this teenage cheetah's gonna be able to do it. "Okay, okay. Don't cry, kid, or else your mom is gonna kill me."
"Maybe I should cry then. Besides, I'm not crying, I just got some dust in my eyes."
"Sure, 'dust'." Zephyr said sarcastically, using his claws to quote. "But seriously, kid, I'm sorry. I can help you if you want." The lightning dragon gripped the bolt in his hand, and held it out to Alex. Zephyr gave the lightning to him. "I understand you were able to do it before because there was an actual threat, I get that. That time when your friend got corrupted and during the first lesson. Now, you can do it, without the pressure. I feel like it's always easier to do it when I'm relaxed."
