"You're really here.." I said, resting my head on his shoulder, continuing to hug him.
"Yes I really am here." He laughed, pulling away from the hug.
"Well come on in!" I smiled, gesturing towards the door.
"No." He waved his hand. "I can't. I came here to welcome you home, and to see you. I know that I visit every year, but I'm busy because of work. Honey I'd love to stay, but I can't put work on hold for much longer."
"What do you mean you put work off?" I asked.
"I'm a worldwide businessman, and right now I should be in England, but I pulled a couple of strings so I could fly my jet out here, to welcome you home." He said sadly.
"But I do have a surprise for you. It's actually for your birthday. It will come within days of your birthday, and there will be a message with it, that I may or may not be able to make it. Does that sound good? Oh, and here, I got you your favorite flowers." He smiled, holding out a dozen white and red roses.
I took them from his grasp. "Thanks daddy."
I gave him a smile, but I just couldn't fight the urge to cry right now.
"Oh honey. I miss you too. I'm taking a lot of time off soon, and I'll take you all out. I promise. But right now, I have a plane to catch if I want to make it to my jet in New York." He said, looking at his watch.
"Okay." I said, frowning. Then something came to mind.
"Hey daddy?" I asked.
"Yes?" He smiled.
"I was in New York for five or six months.. Why did you just see me then?" I asked.
"Because I knew you were busy, and who would have time for your old dad." He let out a soft, sad laugh.
"I love you dad. Have a safe flight."I smiled.
"I love you too sweetie. And tell the boys I love them too. I miss all of you. And especially your mother." He smiled.
"When will I see you again?" I asked, as he walked away to his limo.
"The surprise will tell you!" He chuckled, walking away.
I watched as the limo, with my dad in it, drive away again.
When they turned the curb, I felt like I should drop to my knees and cry, but I'm really happy that he stopped by.
Walking in, I closed the front door, and walked back into the living room where everyone was still at.
"Honey who was at the door-" My mom came around the corner, and then noticed the flowers in my hands.
"Aw, did that sweet boy fletcher get you these?" She cooed, as she took a glance at them.
"Nope. Dad dropped by." I smiled.
"Oh. Well.. How's he doing?" She asked, walking away.
I began to follow her, and we ended up in her study.
"He's doing great! Looking real great! He's really busy, but I might see him in a few weeks again. For my birthday." I said cheerfully.
"Oh that's great honey." She gave me a small smile.
"Am I keeping you from doing something?" I asked.
She was looking at some files she had pulled out, and she began to stress.
"Uh, no. You're fine sweetie." She said, shaking her head.
"Well, I'm going to leave anyway, so you can work. I'll be in my room. I still have to unpack everything." I said.
