My mom, younger sister and I have never been to New York on Halloween, but  we wanted to do something different. With my sister living far away and my mom working all the time, we hardly get together. It had been years since all of us took our short trip to New York, and it was pleasant. Noisy but pleasant. With my mom and I living in Kansas City and my sister living in Springfield Missouri, we all figured we'd meet up at my mom's place. It was the closest to the Kansas City Airport. "Hurry up, Tori!! We'll miss the plane!!" , my mom yelled at me, causing me to snap my head up from my mirror.  "I'm just putting on a few touches. Give me a sec!!", I yelled back at her. I was sitting on the couch putting on some masquera, and my mother was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off frantically doing some last minute packing. "Besides," , I continued,"I'm already packed. I'm just waiting on you." "Ok, well I'm almost ready. You need to stop with the makeup, and come help me out!", she sternly shouted at me. "Mooooooooom!", I said loudly feeling annoyed with how long my mother was taking.

"Victoria Michelle!! Now!!", she yelled from the bathroom. Well, that was it. I knew when she used my full name I was in trouble. Not in a whole heap of trouble because she didn't add my last name. "Victoria Michelle get in here!!", she yelled at me again. I sighed and put away my masquera and decided that I would have to put on my lip stain and lip gloss in the car. "Tori, Tiffie and Shelby are going to be back from Walmart anytime. Now come on!!", she ushered me into the bathroom. "What did you forget, mom?", I asked her knowing that that was the reason why she called me in the bathroom. "I couldn't find the hairdryer.", she stated. "Did you try looking under the sink?", I sighed and looked in the cabinets under the sink, and sure enough, I found it. I gave it to her then asked,"What else?" "I forgot my jewelry. I don't know where I put it.", she said frantically searching her purse. "Could it be in your room in the jewelry box?", I jogged over to my mom's room to look. "I'm looking for my cross necklace.", she stated. "Well, it isn't in here. Where was the last place you saw it?", I yelled from the other room. She came in the room and looked in her top draws for it. It wasn't there. Then she ran out of the room, "I'm going to look for it in the kitchen." "Why would it be in the kitchen?" , I huffed under my breath.

Then I walked into the bathroom again, "Mom, are you sure you didn't already pack it?" She ran back into the bathroom, "Oh my gosh! I can't believe I lost it!!" She looked so flustered that she was about to cry. "Mom, calm down. We'll find it ok?", I reassured her. I began to look around the counter, and lifted up my mom's heavy purse and sure enough. Underneath of it was her cross necklace. She sighed in relief, "Thank you, Tor Tor!!" She then hugged me and put it on. Just then, we heard the front door opened, " Tori, mom we're back. We got what you asked for, but we couldn't find any Ruffles chips for some reason. Guess some kid had a big party. Anyways, we found Pringles instead. Hope you don't mind. Are you packed and ready?" "We're in here Tiffie.", I shouted from the bathroom. She walked in and was shocked to see my mom, and I doing last minute touches on our makeup, "You guys! The plane leaves in an hour and it takes 30 minutes to get to the airport!!" Tiffie was 4 years younger than me so her bossing our mother and me around got irritating, although she acted more mature.

We hurried to our grandpa's car which was loaded with our suitcases and carry-ons. I got the window seat because I was scared of flying. Although I enjoyed it, I had to see where we were going. So the entire time I was staring out my window and got nervous clutching on to the armrests when we hit a little turbulence. My mother beside me held on to my hand and squeezed it for reassurance, "We're going to be fine. We're going to get there and land safely on the ground. Look out the window and take some pictures." I did what she said and felt better. It was so cool to see the beautiful clouds and the very blue sky. I smiled. It was only a two hour trip. I could manage sitting for that long. However my mom could not. She kept getting up and going to the bathroom. It made me laugh. When our flight landed, I smiled. I was so happy it was over. We all filed out of the airplane, went to the baggage claim and got our baggage. Then we waited patiently while mom called a taxi. We were brought to the vacation apartment that we would be staying in for a couple of weeks. "Wow! It's huge!", I said out loud. We were all exhausted from all of the traveling that we hurried as fast as we could to put away our clothes in the dressers in our rooms. Tiffie and Shelby had to share a room, while I got my own room. I smiled to myself. Yep, this was gonna be a great trip.

I had brought my favorite movie, 'The Mummy', with Brendan Fraiser in it, and popped it into the DVD player. As soon as they got to Hamunaptura, I was out like a light. Then my mom came in with my sister and woke me up. "We going to go get something to eat, wanna come?", my sister asked me like they were going with or without me.  "Um yeah.", I said, "Why would you go without me?"  "Tori, you know we wouldn't go without you. Now come on! We're in New York! We have to beat the traffic!", my mom said as my sister pulled me off ground at the foot of my bed. We went to China Town and got some chinese food then went shopping. When we got back to the place we were staying, we all changed into our pj's and got ready for bed. I turned on the rest of the movie and smiled at the happy ending. "It would be nice to have an adventure and find true love along the way.", I sighed as I turned off my light.
