Never Trust Me

Chapter 1

Erwin led the whole scout regiment through the trees after they all split up into their designated squads, the day seemed to slip by and Erwin let off the smoke signal to tell them all to stop for the night. They set up camp in proximity to a destroyed village, and Levi groaned as they set up the tents, hitching the horses to nearby trees. Eren and Mikasa sat down next to each other as Jean did the same with Armin.

"Do you guys think it's a little too quiet?" Sasha asked as she stuffed her face with a potato.

"Not with all of your munching." Jean rolled his eyes, as he kept eating, and Levi huffed as he took a sip from his teacup.

Then everything went wrong, and a fire erupted from the other side of an unoccupied tent, causing the scouts to jump up.

"Who's there?!" Levi shouted, then the fire began to get closer to them, "Shit! Let's get out of here!" Everyone jumped up and blasted out of the area, onto the roofs of the nearby houses.

"Levi? Could that have been caused by our campfire?" Mikasa asked, glaring as the flames engulfed more than 50% of their food and clothes. Along with medicine and drink.

"No. Someone caught it on fire, on purpose to get us away from it." Levi scanned the fire, looking for movement, "Let's grab those water buckets over there." Eren nodded and flew over there, then he shouted.

"I think it is someone! These buckets are full!"

"That makes our job easier, bring them!" Levi blasted off towards the fire, before long the fire was extinguished, and Levi cursed under his breath, "We've been robbed."

"How can you tell?" Jean asked in disbelief.

"You idiot, half of the shit we put here is just gone, not burnt." Levi spat angrily at Jean, who in turn looked like he regretted asking and looked at the buildings.

"Those seemed stable enough for us to hide out in for the night, maybe switch off watchers?"

"That would seem like the only logical decision, grab the horses and put them in the house we go into, we don't need them getting snatched in the middle of the night too." Levi walked over and grabbed his horse, dragging him over to the house.

"I wonder who would even be out here?" Armin asked in fear as he picked up a box of food that was spared, "Like, was it another Scout?"

"Why would a scout steal from other scouts?" Jean rolled his eyes as they walked over to the building where Levi had already started to broom the ground, as his horse was confined by dressers and there was enough room for all 7 of their horses.

"Hey Levi, can I watch first?" Eren asked curiously, and Mikasa went to speak up in protest but Levi nodded looking at him expectantly.

"Go ahead."

"Thank you, sir!" Eren saluted and ran back outside where he sat on the roof, constantly looking around him. But just as Mikasa feared, he had dozed off while leaning on the roof, as he felt safe and then.

"Guys!" Sasha stood up in a crazy way, "Footsteps! Loud! Coming from the north!" She pointed at the back of the house.

"Eren! Do you see anything-!" Mikasa went to shout when they all heard the unmistakable sound of ODM gear zipping through the air then a heavy body fell on the ground.

"He must have attacked a Titan. Let's go out!" Levi ran out alongside Mikasa and the others followed, only to see Eren peacefully sleeping.

"Eren?!" Mikasa shouted in annoyance, and this woke him up, "Who killed the titan? And why were you sleeping!"

"I guess I dozed off. And, what titan? I didn't even hear it."

"Someone killed it, and I bet it's the same person as the one who stole from us. They have ODM gear which isn't a good thing, meaning if they're our enemy, then they will have just as much experience as us."

"I doubt if they were enemies they would have left Eren to sleep on his scrawny ass!" Jean shouted, pissed off at Eren for falling asleep.

"No, but-" Levi then started to hear about 5 Titans charging their way, "I'm gonna send off the signal!" He shouted as everyone else noticed, and he shot off the red signal. But as he kept an eye on the Titans closing in, he caught glimpse of a cloaked figure soaring across the ground, "There they are-" before he could say anything of command, two of the titans fell over, dead. Then the other three followed after and the silhouette disappeared into the trees.

"Levi. They're good." Armin said in awe, "Unless that was one of ours, whoever it is we're up against, they have skills."

"Yes... Sasha! Replace Eren for the next 30 minutes!"

"Yes, sir!" Sasha got in the same place Eren was in and looked around like a watchtower.

"Come on back inside. Let's get rest while we can." Levi jumped down and walked into the building, as a cautious thought stayed prominent in his mind, who was that?

-Later into the night-

It was now Armin's turn to watch and he hadn't been able to sleep whatsoever so he kept nodding off as he tried to watch out. But he felt his body get lifted, and instead of opening his eyes to see a titan, he saw a human, but he couldn't tell any features as she smiled.

"You should go get rest. If the Titans find out that you're tired, they will take you out first. Allow me to take over for the rest of the night, I won't let anything touch you guys." Armin felt naive for trusting her almost too easily, but he had dozed off to sleep before his mind could protest. He was placed lightly on his sleeping cot, her footsteps not making a single sound as she returned to the safety of a nearby tree, and started to eat. This felt like the first good meal she's had in a year and a half since all she could make was dry bread. As she said, she kept an eye out for any incoming Titans, for all of the nearby scouts, as she has learned their formations and their movements.

Levi looked at Armin with a grimaced face, he witnessed the whole act, did that woman kill Armin? Or knock him out? Or did he merely pass out from exhaustion? More importantly, if she had him in her arms, why didn't she kill him? If she's going to steal from people, she's not going to be particularly nice to them.

The night was quiet but loud all the same, as even the slightest twinge in sound caught Levi's attention, and an occasional zip of ODM gear would echo through the air.
