Never Trust Me

Chapter 17

Crystal slowly woke up and suddenly jolted out of shock. She had slept all night and she wasn't eaten? This action had spooked the birds that were resting peacefully and they took off in a hurry, making Crystal feel lonely.

"The scouts would still be on the move right now, so I wonder if Crystallina could hear my whistle. I would really need her in a time like this..." Crystal staggered to get up and looked out over the mass fields to see little dust clouds of dirt being kicked up by horses. They have headed away from her, so if she wanted Crystallina to hear her she had to whistle now.

Levi had put on his bravest face, keeping his stoic expression as he pulled Crystallina along by her reigns. They couldn't afford to lose a horse, they were way too expensive. But then Crystallina's ears perked up and turned backward, instinctively she looked back with them.

"Come on, Crystallina!" Levi said in frustration, and then Crystallina bit at the reigns in his hands, causing him to drop them, "Crystallina!" Levi shouted as the horse took a wide turn around, and started to sprint away.

"What's gotten into her?" Armin asked loudly, and Levi huffed.

"I don't know, maybe she went rabid." He looked forward, he would just have to tell Hanji Crystallina was long gone by the time they stopped to assign quadrants to others.

But then he heard a loud whistle going along with the wind from the south where Crystallina had run off to, did she hear that? He looked back, expecting to see someone, but due to the horses running, the dust blocked his vision from going too far.

'We got to pay attention more now, someone is watching us...' Levi felt their eyes now, but he refused to tell any of his squad members because what if he was just being paranoid?

'You're not being paranoid!' Crystal's voice run through his head, 'I believe you, Captain Levi.' Levi shook his head, his dark locks moving further out of his face, as he struggled to hold back the urge to scream, 'Don't forget that!'

"I won't..." Levi said quietly before being put into a much better mood, as he now sat up tall on Shadow, who in return seemed to get faster. After a bit more riding, they found the spot that Hanji wanted to stop at, and Levi walked up to the makeshift table she made out of a stone.

"So with the information provided to us yesterday by Crystal, we can make sure to go to the areas where more titans are most likely to be. Now is this potentially sending some straight to their deaths? Maybe. But that's the occupational hazard of being a scout." Everyone silently agreed and started to discuss which squads would go where.

Crystal rode Crystallina all the way through the woods, trying to look for the scouts. She needs to get to them fast if she wants to lower the fear in their hearts of her dying. Crystallina was going as fast as she could, without really putting a strain on her body, she understood Crystal's commands as she told her to turn. They soon saw a large smoke pillar of green smoke, then several others popped up all around it.

"They've started." Crystal said as she started to hope she would run into Levi soon, and instead she saw Hanji's squad heading west. So she ran for that and started calling out, "Hanji!" Hanji looked her way and her glasses shimmered in the sunlight.

"Crystal?!"

"I'm here." Crystal said as she made Crystallina stop next to Hanji's horse.

"C-Crystal..." Hanji's eyes immediately started to tear up before she jumped over to her, grabbing her in a right hug, "You scared us all!" Crystal smiled softly at Hanji's crying form as it clung to her, and she felt the question well up in her throat.

"Where's Levi's squad?" Hanji sat up and looked around, pointing at one of the disappearing smokes in the south, "Thats his."

"Alright. I've got to return to my squad, Commander. Be safe." Crystal started to take off towards the area she pointed, this ride showed her how beautiful Wall Maria really was, the countryside was really pretty, "You know Crystallina... I want to build more houses around my pond... And move everyone in there." She didn't receive a response but she knew Crystallina heard her, "Levi can move in with me..." Crystal hugged Crystallina's neck as she stared ahead.

Then she saw him. Levi was leading his squad through the fields, all but two were battle ready. Crystal's heart raced but then she saw Mikasa.

To say Crystal hated her would be over exaggerating, but she did feel hurt that Mikasa wrote her off as dead and kept Eren from saving her. Could have saved Crystal from breaking her leg, could have saved everyone the hassle of worrying about her.

"Captain Levi!"

Thump. Thump.

Levi yanked on his horse's reigns and turned towards the voice, where she was; beautifully smiling at him, her body looked mangled but she seemed otherwise okay. She was alive.

"Crystal!" Armin shouted, jumping off his horse to run over to her, grabbing her into a tight hug. Levi let a small smile as their eyes locked, they both spoke with love and longing. They wanted to be hugging, crying out their need for each other's longing embrace. But they both knew the task at hand was to first exterminate any and all titans in Wall Maria.

"It's okay..." Crystal said soothingly, wanting to lower his voice, "I'm here, don't worry... I'm here."

"Let's get back to work then, Crystal." Levi continued on the path, and Crystal looked after him.

Could she really be happy with him? He'd have to see once they returned to the house by the pond.

The squad fought the best they could, and come to find out, they had succeeded in eliminating all nearby titan threats. The other squads were even luckier, they got finished soon after Levi's squad. As they rested in the camp, Levi looked for the maiden that had stolen his heart and found her sitting by a large tree.

"Oi, brat, what do you think you're doing?" Crystal looked up at him with a smile, "I thought Hanji told you to take it easy, doing laundry is not taking it easy..." Levi felt weird saying such a cheesy based line, but it seemed to work its way into her heart.

"I thought maybe I could get a particular shorty to help me." Crystal teased as Levi sat down next to her on the blanket she had laying down.

"You know I could make you do whatever I want as a punishment for saying that."

"Sure you could, Captain Shorty." Crystal smiled widely as Levi huffed in annoyance.

"Yeah, I have a punishment for you."

"Oh-?" Levi's lips clashed with hers, stealing her words and her breath. At first, admittedly, he was worried, a little nervous about how she would react, but as he was about to pull away he felt her melt into the kiss, making it deeper, and then her arm wrapping around his neck, making his go around her waist. He closed his eyes as she closed hers, the sound of the wind blowing sent both into a lost state of joy, laying Crystal down Levi hovered above, kissing her passionately.
