"I'm going to have to reschedule our meeting, Joa, someone just made a power play for my territory and shot my girl and myself. I'm not sure how long it'll take me, I'll let you know as soon as I can." Trey makes the call he really didn't want to. Joa doesn't like rescheduling things and right now his syndicate is larger than Trey's.
"Are you alright?" Joa asks in concern which makes Trey hold his phone away from his ear in disbelief making sure that he called the right number.
"Yeah, just a flesh wound on me, but my girlfriend nearly died. I'm on my way to talk to the rat that betrayed me."
"Do what you need to and let me know when you can make it, I'll clear my schedule. Let me know if you need my help."
Now Trey understands a bit and thinks about things a little more clearly. There's no way in hell he's going to indebt himself to the Red Dragons. "I appreciate the offer, but I believe that I will be able to deal with this myself. My girlfriend is from a different mafia and they are very angry about her being hurt. They are already helping me lock down and deal with things."
"She's important to another mafia?"
Shit! He didn't want Joa to know that much about her. "Yeah her father was a mafia boss."
"Bring her when you come, I would like to meet this girlfriend of yours." Joa says or rather demands of Trey.
"I have already invited her and she's very much interested in seeing how the orientals deal with mafia life."
"Very well, I hope she makes a speedy recovery and you are able to handle your issues quickly."
"Thank you, Joa. I'll see you as soon as I can." With that Joa hangs up and Trey starts muttering to himself. He'd given far too much away. He hadn't want Joa to know anything about Alexa.
He hopes that Alexa makes a speedy recovery or she's not going to enjoy their visit to Asia.
"Well, I never thought one of my own would betray me. Tell me, Mark, just what made you turn against me? I've given you everything!" Trey says at first his voice is calm and well modulated, but by the end he is yelling in the man's ear.
"I needed money, boss. I'm not making enough to support my family." Mark tells him and can't look at Trey. He looks at the floor in shame.
"I know your family, I know what you make and I know that you make more than enough to take care of your family, especially since they live rent free on my property. Try again only this time try telling me the truth!" Trey demands looking over his different options on the table next to the wall. He debates between two different knives. He checks them out and frowns in displeasure.
"Why aren't the knives sharp?" Trey demands of the one in charge of the torture instruments.
"They have been in a lot of use lately and I've not had time to sharpen them appropriately." The man answers back immediately and no little scared.
Trey nods thoughtfully. Yes, he's been bringing in Ken's men a lot and having some stress relief. He also had Alexa come with him at times. That girl makes what he does to people look like a kindergarten finger painting in comparison to her masterpieces done in oils. Her brother was a fool to go against her like he did. He really was lucky to get off by being sold.
"Sharpen all the knives and any of the other instruments that need it. That will be your first priority for now." Trey says absently as he chooses a different torture device.
"For tonight we won't do much, I want to get back to Alexa before she wakes up." Trey nods in satisfaction holding up the bamboo splints. Yes, these will do nicely.
He walks back over to the prisoner and starts inserting the splints under the nails. When the man is able to keep the scream from leaving his mouth, Trey shoves the splints in harder making them go all the way through the finger. He looks at his work with pursed lips and finally gives a nod of approval. "Not too bad. Now, Mark, what were you saying?"
Trey shoves another splint into the finger.
Trey is impressed that Mark is able to resist answering his questions for more than an hour. He smiles darkly. If he didn't need to return to Alexa he'd continue, but he hopes to have Alexa here for the next go around.
"Take care of him. I want him in top shape for our next get together." Trey orders the man that had been quietly sharpening the knives as Trey worked on Mark.
"Yes, boss. Full medical care and food?"
"Yes, make sure he has a shower at least once a day as well."
The words barely register in the prisoners ears but once the door to the cell closes they finally become clear to him. He allows his tears to fall even harder then. There is only one reason the boss would order such good care, he's going to be here for a very long time before he'll be allowed death.
He's afraid of what will happen to his family. They are innocent and had no knowledge of what he was doing.
"Please, don't let my family be harmed, Mickelle." The man sobs as the other loosens the ropes that are holding Mark to the chair.
"It's out of my hands, Mark. Why'd you have to betray the boss like that, huh? He's taken care of you and your family for years, just like they are his family, you are family."
Mark laughs bitterly and without a trace of humor. "We all make shitty decisions at times and I made a really bad one. I disobeyed the boss when he said to not go to a certain gambling hell and lost big time. I had to either inform on the boss's movements or they were going to take my daughter and sell her after killing my wife."
"You should have told the boss, he could have figured something out. I doubt that he will go easy on you. Miss Alexa was hurt, she was shot, in that little disaster tonight. Not only that but Jeremy, they're not sure that he'll make it. A couple of the other men were killed as well as some innocents.
"I think the boss is going to wait for Miss Alexa to decide what to do with you. I've seen her work after she gets done with someone, good luck. She really has a soft spot for Jeremy." Mickelle tells the unfortunate man.
They've all seen the end results of Alexa's work and Mark turns more than a little green at the thought of her working on him.
Mickelle picks up the suddenly dead weight prisoner and carries him back to his cell. He leaves and returns with a first aid box and proceeds to fix up Marks torn and bloody fingers.
