He chased me through the dark crowded forest. I weaved through the trees, attempting to throw him off my tail, but I was unsuccessful. Instead of creating more distance between us, I demolished the small amount of it I had left.
He was too fast. Too fast on foot. My lungs were gasping for air every step I took. My limbs were screaming with pain. Exhaustion slowly took over my body.
I could hear his deep laughing approaching me. Chills run down my numb body. I try to run faster, using all the energy I had left, even though I knew I couldn't.
I tried to ignore the stinging, but it was too much. I tripped, launching my body forward at an alarming rate. For the few second I flew in the air, I felt extremely relieved. My limbs relaxed from their tense state.
My face dug into the ground. I could feel the skin on my face peel, revealing the flesh beneath. My right shoulder was gushing out blood from hitting a root. It took everything in my power not to yell out in pain.
"Get up." He ordered me. I lifted my face from the dirt, my wounds stinging. I could feel blood drip from my face. I slowly push myself up with my sore limbs, then turn to look my father in the eyes. "Much better." He said with satisfaction.
I held my head high, not letting my eyes wander from his. He slowly walked towards me. I could feel reality slowly fade.
"It's our first day, Y/N. Wake up." He whispered in my ear. It was such an unusual request. We stood in silence for a few minutes. He grew angry.
"GET UP!"
That's when everything went dark.
I shot out of my bed. Thank Merlin that was only a dream. Angelina sat at the edge of my bed while Katie's face was positioned only inches away from mine.
"What the bloody hell are you guys doing?" I asked. It was still pitch black outside.
"We thought that it would be fun to have some girl time before class." Katie said.
"At," I check my clock "3:47 in the morning?" They shrugged their shoulders. I sigh.
"C'mon Y/N, it'll be fun!" Angelina said. "We'll gossip, do our makeup, whatever you want!"
"Right now, what I really want to do is sleep." I said pulling my sheets over my head. They quickly snatched my covers and stripped them from my freezing body. I huddled in effort to warm myself.
"So, are you just going to stay curled up on your bed or are you going to hang out with us?" Katie asked. I sighed.
"Fine." I said. They squealed in excitement, grabbed my arms, and launched me off my bed. I flew up and landed on my feet. I nearly fell on my face, but Angelina and Katie caught me, making sure I stayed on my feet.
—(Time skip brought to you by the sad box of pancake mix still lying on your floor)—
"Almost done" Katie said as she applied some rouge pink lipstick to my lips. The formula was creamy and glided onto my lips like butter.
"Can you stay still?" Katie asked impatiently.
"Sorry." I muttered under my breath as she adjusted my head for the ten millionth time.
"Aaaaaaaaaaand, there." She said with a final stroke. She gave me a hand held mirror. My checks were slightly rosy, matching my tinted lips. She chose a nude pink eyeshadow that subtly covered my eyelids. With some black eyeliner and some mascara, the look was complete. I looked in awe.
"Kate, this looks fantastic!" I said gasping. Her smile grew with every word I spoke. "How did you learn to do this?"
"I practice on myself." She said.
"Well, your practice certainly paid off." Angelina said as she slipped her legs into her skirt. Angelina had on magenta lipstick and a smokey eye, complimenting her skin.
"Do you want me to do your makeup?" I asked.
"I'm ok. I can do my own." She said as she laid out some products.
I looked at Angelina who was fully dressed. "Do you want to grab breakfast with me?"
"Sure." She said.
We started to walk out the door until Katie shouted after us.
"What about going together?" She asked.
"Well, we all know you're going to take forever." Angelina said while I nodded in agreement.
"Could you at least keep me company? We could talk, you know." Katie said. With a sigh, we dragged ourselves back into the room and sat on our beds.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" Angelina asked with no interest at all.
"Y'know, this year is our OWLs year. Do you think the twins will finally take school seriously?" Katie asked. I laughed.
"You couldn't be more off." I said.
"How come?" Katie asked.
"Just because it's an important year, doesn't mean they're going to take it seriously." I stated.
"Plus, pranks are too important to the twins. They wouldn't give that up for the world." Angelina added.
"Speaking of the twins," Katie said "Fred's been acting kind of funny lately."
"He's always been funny." I said.
"No, that's not what I meant. He just seems to be acting different." Katie said.
"How so?" Angelina asked fidgeting with her wand.
"Well, it's hard to explain." She said. "He been pretty distant."
"Yeah, now that I think about it, he didn't talked to me at all over the summer." Angelina said.
"I don't know what you guys are talking about. He tried to talk to me nearly every day." I said. Angelina and Katie looked at each other. "What?"
"...Nothing..." Katie said under her breath.
"We're just... thinking." Angelina said.
I shrugged off their odd behavior and thought about my schedule. Luckily for me, I had DADA today. I've always found that class rather easy, and I get to see Uncle Remus. I know that he'll make DADA so much fun.
He's always made doing boring things fun. When I was younger, he taught me little songs and interesting ways to do things so I never lost interest in what I was doing. I applied the little things he taught me to my chores. To this day, I still sing the songs he taught me.
"Finished." Katie said interrupting my thoughts.
"Took you long enough." Angelina said. Katie rolled her eyes.
"At least I finished." Katie said. "Now, lets go."
We all rose from our beds and walked out the door.
