I shot out of bed. Another bad dream, I guess. I kept having horrid dreams over break. This one happened to be about... Dad. I don't even think I can call him that. He might be my biological father, but that doesn't mean I have to love him. He ratted out Harry's parents to You-Know-Who and killed his best friend.
Mum died a few days after I was born, so after my father was arrested, I was left with my Uncle, Remus. It's been rough since Uncle Remus couldn't find a job that would accept his 'condition', but he's always managed to find a way to provide for me.
We've lived all over Europe from Paris to Luxembourg and even Greece because of Uncle Remus's jobs. Every job lasts at most a month, so we move pretty often. This time, Uncle Remus was offered a job at Hogwarts. He almost turned it down, but I convinced him to accept the offer. It was going to be so much fun with Uncle Remus at school!
My clock read 5:34 AM. It could have been worse. I placed my feet on the cold wood floor and quietly walked towards the kitchen, making sure not to make a sound. Passing by Uncle Remus's room, I held my breath. The last thing Uncle Remus needs right now is less sleep. He already sleeps late. Every step I made increased my heart rate. After I made my last step on the wood floor onto the carpet, I silently celebrated my success.
It was dark in our little apartment, but there was enough light shining in through the small window over the sink to see. Though there was a small amount of light, I still had trouble finding my way.
Trying to reach the kitchen, I accidentally walked into the small dining table we owned and stubbed my toe. Pain hit me a few second after the 'tragic event' and I bit my lip in order to stop myself from shouting cusses. I waited for the pain to subdue, then continued on my dark path. Once I finally reached my destination, I turned on the light over the stove, got out a pan, gathered my ingredients, and started to make breakfast.
Uncle Remus and I have a deal. I do the chores, and he works. I do the laundry, fold the laundry, cook, wash the dishes, vacuum, dust, etc. Since I'm underage and we live in a muggle apartment complex, I have to do chores with muggle appliances.
The smell of eggs filled every room and the soft sizzle it gave off made my stomach ache. As I transferred the eggs to two plates, I heard footsteps coming from behind me. Uncle Remus let out a loud yawn then sat down at the table. I brought over his plate of eggs and toast and placed it right in front of him, then went back to the kitchen to grab some silverware.
"Smells fantastic." He says in a yawn as he stretches his arms.
"Thank you." I say as I place a fork and knife on either side of his plate. "Now eat up sleepy head."
He does as I say while I bring my plate over and begin to eat as well. Once we finished, I collected our dishes and brought them to the sink for cleaning.
"Y/N?" Remus asked.
"Yes?" You responded while you scrubbed a plate with a sponge.
"You know that tonight is a full moon, and with that I need you to stay home. No going out, no magic, no-"
"Riding my broom, having friends over, or answering the door. Have my wand at the ready in case some breaks in, and stay safe. I know." I say, cutting him off. He gives me a warm smile, then got up from the table and pushed his chair in.
Before Uncle Remus sat down on the couch, an owl crashed into the window, making both of us jump. Damnit, I forgot to open the window again I thought. I went over and open the window so the owl could enter. It flew in, dropped the Daily Prophet and a letter on Uncle Remus's lap, then landed on the back of one of the dining room chairs. I go over and give the owl the proper amount of money for the newspaper and some bread crumbs, then it flew away.
"Looks like you got your Hogwarts letter" Uncle Remus said. I go over to grab the letter from him, but I stoped when I saw his face. He sat there in shock, his eyes fixed on the Daily Prophet.
"Is there something wrong?" I ask. He doesn't look at me, but keeps his eyes on the paper.
"He escaped." He muttered.
"What? Who?" I asked. I was extremely confused.
"Sirius. Sirius escaped Azkaban."
