Darkness. That is all I have ever known. Dad said that it has always been like this ever since he was a little kid. When the war stared. When the war came it was almost like the life had been sucked out of the ground. The sky was forever gray and the land barren. Not many places saw sunlight these days and when they do it is very rare and few in-between.
My mother used to tell us story's about when it was bright. How the sunlight would flitter in-between the branches of tress as you rested in the shade and how with it came the sweet smell of flowers and honey. And when it was dark there was always a bit of light in the sky. She calls them starts actually many of the older generation dose they say that when darkness fell over the land, they were there to Gide us and gave us hope that the light would come back.
She also said that the sun was a star and that it was the bright of them all. But I couldn't believe it. I have always longed for the brightness ever since I felt the sun once on my skin as a little girl, I can barely remember but what I do remember was the warm feeling as if I was wrapped in a warm blanket and in front of the fire slowly drifting off to sleep while my mother sang to me.
Darkness will forever rule the land my father says and maybe one day years in to the future we can see the sun and bask in its rays once again. But that day is very far away. And I fear that I will not be here to see it and that I will waste away in nothing but darkness. For that is all I have ever known, and in the darkness I will stay.
