I hear it carried across the breeze
The thought brings me to my kneesI could beg, whimper and plead
The signs are there if I will readI want you to remember how it felt
When at your alter I often kneltBut that is just my wishful thinking
As I see that the ship is sinkingI want, I want is all I ever seem to say
The mantra repeats through my dayI only tell you that my heart is broke
So you'll know it wasn't a jokeWere I the author I'd never choose
This ending in which I will loseLove is defined as being selfless
Can it it be true as I'm so selfish? You were by far the better part
Of every beat from my broken heartI know you, and that you fear
The way others think of you dearHear me when I say you're the best
You simply outclass all the restI hope when my name is brought
You'll think of me when you I taughtOr you'll remember that I was kind
If you needed help it's me you'd findYou'll haunt me forever it's true
Better than losing the memory of youI'll toss and turn trying to sleep
As memories of you quietly creepYou'll say we are no longer friends
I can't accept that's how this endsI promise that I'm not trying to plead
To give excuses is what I needYour a handful, but all I want to hold
How silly of me to be so boldI've cried for so very long
Given the finality of this songGod how you've made me so happy
One look at you and I'm all sappyPromise me that you'll never tell
My secrets you've kept so wellGo ahead and close that door
Don't look back at me on the floorYou can be anything you want
Your wit, brains and beauty to flauntSo before you tell me I already know
That you love me but you have to go
