Sunday morning came and I was a ball of nerves about attending my first NFL football game, having no idea what to expect. After Odell completely ruined my date the night before, I thought about bailing on his game. But I knew he told his mother I was coming and that I would be sitting next to her. I had no problem standing my 'best friend' Odell up, but I didn't want to stand up his mother. What had I gotten myself into? I just hoped she was nowhere near to the same level of hostile as my own mother.
Odell had been texting and calling my phone for most of the night. I eventually just turned it off completely, not planning to put him out of his misery until the morning. He wasn't playing today anyway, so let him worry all night.
Almost as soon as I turned the phone on I got a phone call.
"Where you been?" Odell's voice cracked on the other end.
"At home where you left me. What do you want?" I tried not to feel bad about torturing him.
"How was your night with Mr Tarzan?" He sounded angry at my nonchalant response. "I can't believe you slept with him this soon."
"I slept with you on the first night, without knowing your real name so what's your point?" I snapped back.
"Yea.. well... that was different." Odell grumbled, backing off at the tone of my voice.
"Oh yea? How?"
There was silence on the other end of the line. I could almost hear the wheels turning in Odell's head as he tried to come up with a response. I just continued instead.
"Besides I didn't sleep with him. He left as soon as he dropped me off. Who do you think I am? I was just messing with you, asshole."
"Ummmhmmm. And I thought we were leaving Italy in Italy?" Now I could hear him smiling hard through the phone. "Well you're still coming today right?"
"I'm still coming." I replied reluctantly. "So let me go so I can get ready."
"Yup. See ya." Odell said cheerfully and hung up. I rolled my eyes.
I wore the #13 jersey that Odell gave me tied up on the side with a pair of jean shorts. I put in my contacts and tied my natural curls up on top of my head with some sunglasses. I thought I looked like I was going to a football game. I sent a picture to Nylah just in case and she sent back a thumbs up.
By the time I made my way to the stadium and found my seat, the game had already started. I spotted Odell down on the side lines watching the game still in his warm up clothes. Eventually he turned and I waved hoping he would see. He waved back at me and to the woman sitting next to me. She was a tall beautiful woman with long blonde hair which she wore down under a giants baseball cap. After she noted her son waving at me, she turned and gave me a once over. Her face was blank, neither friendly nor unfriendly, but she had that look Odell always wore when he was deep in his thoughts.
