And so...
The third game into the regular football season, Odell was finally cleared to return to the field.
His injury and another season lost had matured him, making him a quieter teammate and less apt to draw attention on the sidelines, but it had not unlit the fire within him. If anything it just made the fire brighter. The chemistry between him, Barkley, and rookie QB Deshaun Watson out of Clemson was undeniable. Sports analysts were ironically calling it reminiscent of the Dallas Triplets, Smith, Aikman, and Irvin. And THE season. The season Odell had been waiting for his entire career started to take shape... Just as long as his ankle held up.
Odell and Cassandra's relationship continued to grow throughout the season. Cassandra moved most of her things into his house and they made plans to spend the holidays together despite the fact that both their stubborn mothers still completely opposed the match. Thanksgiving was going to be small since there was another game the Sunday after the holiday and Odell planned to make a huge production of Christmas in Louisiana. So the plan this year was a quiet dinner in New Jersey, just the two of them and their dogs.
Cassandra was used to spending the day with her mom or with Nylah's family. Never anything special. Tyler was always away with his father. So once it started to snow, she decided to get in the holiday spirit and plan an ambitious meal for their little dinner.
However, as soon as Odell started to brag about Cas cooking dinner around the locker room as well as to some of his single friends, their little Thanksgiving quickly swelled from two to about ten. She invited some of her own colleagues who were in town without family, and all of a sudden, it was an actual full blown Friendsgiving party. Now she was in a panic trying to get the meal done while guarding the food from Odell who kept sneaking into the kitchen to taste test.
"Babe! You've out done yourself. Damn this is good." Odell had another spoon in his mouth after dipping it into the mix for the pies. Cas was sure she hid all the utensils the last time he snuck into the kitchen.
"Odell!! Quit eating!!" She threw the dish rag at his head and as usual he caught it without flinching. While he was distracted Cas grabbed the spoon from his hand and out of his mouth and hid that one too. "By the time you finish there's gonna be nothing left. We got a million and one people coming here tonight because of you and your big ass mouth and I'm already stressed enough!"
