Hoseok quietly opens the door to his mother's room. "Who's there?" Queen Jung asks. Hoseok stops, hearing his mother's sweet voice makes him close his eyes, tight. Jess gently pulls Hoseok away from the door and enters the room ahead of him. "Queen Jung, it's me. I came to see if there is anything I can prepare for you." Jess says with a smile."Oh Jess. Is my little sunshine back?" Queen Jung asks with a warm smile. "Yes. The prince said he would visit shortly, he just had something small to finish up." Jess says with a smile. "Ok deer. Could you come here?" Queen Jung asks. Queen Jung waves for Jess to come closer. Jess obeys the queen's request and walks closer to the bed, standing inches from the foot. "Yes queen Jung?" Jess asks with a bow.

Hoseok sits down in a chair outside the room. "Aish. Get it together." Hoseok whispers to himself. Hoseok runs his hands through his blonde locks and rests his head back against the wall. "Mama." Hoseok whispers letting a few more tears fall from his eyes.

"I wanted to ask you something." Queen Jung says before letting a giggle slip from her lips. "Anything my queen." Jess says. Queen Jung pats the bed and looks up at Jess. "My queen, that's not appropriate." Jess says with furrowed brows. "Sit. It's a command." Queen Jung says with a smile. Jess let's out a shaky breath and sits on the bed near queen Jung's legs. "Now. Tell me my deer, why did you become a maid? Tell me a story." Queen Jung asks. Jess looks over toward the door, then back at the queen, a pink tint covering her face."I was in the military, you know I was specially assigned to training prince Hoseok, because no one else wanted to train a 'spoiled' prince. When I met him, he was so nice. I thought it was the kind of nice people are when they want something from you. When they want to trick you into something. Unfortunately those are the kind of people I had met before the prince. Being a female knight was hard. I entered with five other female trainees and they all left as soon as they could. Male guards can be bullies and they obviously saw me as a threat." Jess says with a nod. Queen Jung nods and gestures for Jess to continue.
"I trained prince Hoseok longer and harder than I should have, but he did everything I had asked of him and still remained so kind. Still gave me that smile that could put the sun itself to shame. By the time I was done training with him for a few months, he become great at hand to hand combat and an amazing swordsmen. He still can't shoot a gun without closing his eyes, even today, but he improved so much. I knew at that point I wanted to protect him no matter what the cost." Jess says looking off with a smile.
Queen Jung smiles as she watches Jess think. "One morning before the war was announced, I was called by the king. King Jung called me to his office and asked me to make sure to keep Hoseok safe no matter what. That if I needed, I should give my life. By that time, of course, I had already trained prince Hoseok for many months. The six months required by each prince before the age of eighteen and few more before of the announcement about the mines. In training prince Hoseok, I was given the rank of high knight and still I was meant to be more of a guard for him. I knew what he was capable of. I had even helped him control himself when he went blank for the first time. I truly wanted, with my whole heart, to keep him safe." Jess says. "I heard from Hobi that you lost your family when you were younger. Is that why you devoted yourself to my little sunshine?" Queen Jung asks.
"It's more than just that. Prince Hoseok treats everyone equally, to him, your gender means nothing when it comes to respect. He's remained the kind, gentle and respectful man he's always been." Jess whispers. "Tell me the rest." Queen Jung says with a tilt of her head.
"When war was underway and I was his shadow. It was a short, but fierce battle and I managed to stay with him for many days and nights. At some point we had gotten separated and then I heard someone yell 'rain', I knew what that meant. The enemy kingdom had lost many knights and it was a last resort. They had the remaining knights fall back to shoot flaming arrows into the air toward us all. I looked around frantically and after the first round of arrows I finally saw him. My Hope. I ran to him and saw that he had already gotten hit in the shoulder." Jess says the last sentence with a nod. Jess quickly wipes a tear as it escapes her eye.
"I took off my helmet and put it on him. I wasn't sure when his helmet had been knocked off, but I knew I had to protect him. When 'second rain' was yelled I covered him with my body, it took all the strength i had left to keep him under me. He tried rolling us over so he could protect me. Me? An orphaned knight. So I kept him under me until I was physically removed from him. He had lost consciousness at some point due to blood loss and shock, but I managed to stay awake. I had five arrows in my body when we were found, but all I could think about was the one arrow I couldn't shield my Hope from." Jess says. Jess looks down at her hands in her lap, sniffling.
