Everyone from the pack was gathered around the Evan’s house. The last to arrive was Caila and her group. The air smelled fresh and clean, just like any other normal day but it was still. Caila frowned and waved her hand about, feeling no movement in the air at all. Something’s wrong…very wrong.
“Kaden, I’m here,” she walked up to her Beta who was surrounded by the three other trainers, Tainer, Myrtle and Daniel. Andrew stood directly in front of the front porch, arms crossed and eyes deep in thought.
“Okay, so, the four of you have your strongest attack don’t you?” Kaden asked.
The four of them nodded their heads.
“Fire and Wind are to do an offensive move whilst Water and Earth, defensive. Is that all right? We’ll need to neutralize the barrier.”
“Are we going to each take a side of the house?” Myrtle cut in; worry lines etched deep into her forehead.
“Yes. Fire at the North. Water at the South. Earth at the East. Wind at the West. Before you take your positions,” he started, causing the four to pause in their tracks. “Are you really sure you want to do this? Something feels very wrong…”
Caila bit her lip as she exchanged knowing glances with the three other trainers. If they didn’t do this now, who will? They were the only ones that mastered the elements and it’s bad enough that elemental wolves were rare. She turned her head to Andrew, pondering at what his thoughts would be as the Alpha. How would it be staring at the corpses of your members but cannot do anything about it? As if he sensed her stare, he turned around, his mask of authority up but she and Kaden knew better. They were his good friends, best friends perhaps? His eyes had unshed tears and his muscles were tense with fury. She could only imagine his mind going haywire – for a wolf that was bestowed the gift of thoughts. He could read other people’s mind, with or without a barrier, improvise something with one breath and to put it simply, his mind worked wonders.
Andrew was the brain of the pack.
“We’ll do it,” Daniel and Tainer said with confidence, jerking Caila out of her thoughts. Myrtle nodded her head and stood her ground with them.
They looked at her expectantly. Was she going to back out? With a scoff, she said, “I’m in.” Of course she wouldn’t. It’ll just wound her pride.
Kaden motioned for the crowd to stand back further, even more when he thought they were standing too close. Caila went to her position, the spot Andrew was standing at. He was still staring at Lancelot and the mother, and out of curiousity, she followed his gaze to finally take a look at the house. Her eyes widened and she felt the acids in her stomach churn, threatening to spill out. How did Constantine live with doing that?
The mother’s head was decapitated, her blood painting the front steps like a red carpet and the body was placed like a rug by the open door. There were bloody handprints on the walls and her head was spiked at the steps’ railing, her lips painted with her own blood. Lancelot’s body was facing up, his hands placed together and just like what Kaden had said…there the envelope was above his heart. Every inch of his body was covered in cuts and his clothes were caked in dried blood. The plants in there seemed dead even though they were alive a healthy green colour. Caila squeezed her eyes shut, feeling the tears brimming at her lashes. She was certain she saw Lancelot’s hands chopped off and eyes gorged out.
“There, there…” came Kaden’s voice as he brought her into a hug. He patted her head and she returned the hug.
Andrew took one final look at the house and faced the crying female with a frown before pulling the façade back up. He walked away to stand with the anxious crowd.
