“I can’t believe that guy! How can he just issue a challenge because of my feelings for the same human girl he likes?”

Werewolves do have mates, their soul mates, but people will be people. They developed crushes, fall in and out of puppy love or even simply mess around for fun. Kaden kicked the stone away, watching it skip across the street. Why was he so worked up over it anyways? He was never like this. Additionally, it was rare to find one’s mate. It was near impossible. It would have either been rejection or early death, or even halfway across the globe.

He looked at his hands as he clenched and unclenched them. He couldn’t wait to be chosen by his element and just the thought of it excited him. In six months would be his birthday and on that day, he would get his element and most likely meet his mate.

“But you can only meet your mate when your mate is of age as well,” came Caila’s voice. “You can be friends with your mate for all your life but you will not know until your mate’s 16th birthday.”

He felt his lips turn upside down. If his mate so happened to be younger than him…

“Unless it’s different for Alphas and Betas… They do have an exception to that rule. They can still find their mate even though their mate’s still younger. I’m not quite certain on that.”

The morning sun shone brightly in the cloudless skies and a flock of birds flew across. Not many people were up and about in that hour since sleep would have still conquered their fatigued bodies. Kaden came to a stop in front of his house with a dejected sigh. Why couldn’t his life be easier?

Kaden! It’s urgent. Call for a pack meeting now. There’s something I need to announce.

Kaden jumped at the sound of his Alpha’s voice in his mind-link. A pack meeting? At this early hour?

Without a word of protest or complaints, he sent word to every pack member, telling the heavens a silent apology for the mental pain that will happen. All was to be at Andrew’s backyard for the meeting, latest in fifteen minutes and no one was allowed to miss it. If the Alpha said it was urgent, it was urgent. Taking a deep breath, he started a slow jog towards Andrew’s house, taking his own sweet time before picking up the pace. His place was a mere twenty minutes away.

When he reached with five minutes to spare, more than half the pack was already present. He smiled at Caila who was waving like crazy and he returned her wave. He ignored Nathen’s scowl and went to stand next to his sister – pet sister – who looked up at him with her eyes narrowed.

“Not going to fight again are you?”

He meekly shook his head even though he was smiling throughout it all. A grin returned onto her face and she opened her arms to which he gladly accepted the hug.

“Not like you to start fighting over it though… you’re usually breaking fights apart,” she stuck her tongue out at him playfully.

He chuckled and ruffled her hair, earning himself a pout from her. He opened his mouth to say something when a voice full of authority cut him off.

“Kaden! I need you up here!”

“Yes, sir!”

He patted Caila’s head and walked up to stand next to Andrew as everyone else gathered into a circle before them. How could he not? He was their Beta. Andrew, the Alpha, was a male in his early twenties with pure black hair and mesmerizing forest green eyes. He was a person who knew all and saw all, a person with eagle eyes one could say. There were voices murmuring in the air, most of them exchanging worried glances. Kaden took a glimpse at Andrew from his peripheral vision, noting the furrow in the eyebrows and the slight twitch of a barely visible frown.
