“Whaaaaat?!” Kaden screamed, his voice trailing off with the wind. “She woke up? How!”
Kaden? Are you there? Did you faint? Are you alive?
Kaden blinked when he realized he had screamed his thoughts out loud minutes later, instead of telling Andrew through the pack link.
No, I didn’t faint. I’m still alive.
Haha, his Alpha chuckled. I can’t believe it! They woke up! What did you do, Kaden?
I’ll tell you about it later… they’re at your house, right? All four of them?
Yep!
Without any more thoughts and not another second to waste, he slung his guitar onto his back and ran towards the house. He was grinning from ear to ear as his hair whipped around his face, not like he could keep it off his face anyways. He was overjoyed. No, wait. Change that, yes, with an exclamation mark.
He was overjoyed!
Pretty soon, he arrived at the front steps of Andrew’s house and a member held it open for him, allowing him to just rush through, giving the member a startle.
“Caila!” he called, throwing the door open.
The brunette averted her attention from Andrew to him. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it after. Kaden arched an eyebrow and took a step front. The next time she opened her mouth, he expected her to smile and call him but he felt his jaw drop open and small pieces of his heart to break away.
“Who are you?”
Andrew stepped back with a grim expression and he faced Kaden with the same face. “I’m sorry…she – she…”
“Caila? How can you not remember me?” He forced a smile. “I’m Kaden. It’s me. Your brother.”
He walked until he stood by her bedside, holding her gaze with his own. He refused to believe it.
“What brother? I don’t have a brother…”
He brought his head down as the tears began to well up, a shadow casted over his eyes. This was not how he imagined the reunion with her. Chuckles fell on his ears, causing him to look at the culprit but his gaze landed on a smiling Caila, who couldn’t help but let the giggles escape. She opened her arms wide with the biggest smile after her giggling fit.
“Come give me a hug, Kaden. I’ve missed you.”
It took him a few seconds to process her words but eventually, his frown turned upside down as he bent down and scooped her into his arms, lifting her body off the bed by a few inches. Laughter sounded within the room as she hugged him by the neck, so glad to see him again. She was simply happy. He set her back down on the bed and frowned. He turned his head to look at Andrew who grinned like a Cheshire cat, then back to Caila.
“That wasn’t very nice.”
She giggled and grinned cheekily. “Sorry, but I couldn’t help it.” She opened her arms for another hug, jutting her bottom lip into a pout while looking at him from under her lashes. “Hug?”
Chuckles escaped his lips as he accepted the hug, truthfully relieved of the whole situation.
“Aww… no hug for me?”
Caila and Kaden released each other as Andrew whined, opening their arms towards him as an invitation that he happily accepted.
“How are the others?” Caila asked when they broke apart and she sat back on her bed.
“They’re doing fine. It’s just as if you four just woke up from a deep sleep. Nothing’s wrong at all,” Andrew answered. “And I can finally access your minds. I couldn't do it when you guys were in a coma,” he knitted his eyebrows together as he spoke, creating lines on his forehead.
Caila tilted her head to a side. “The only one we could hear was Kaden when he visited us. Other than that, it was just silence, save for our bantering.” She grinned at the memory. “We kept arguing nonstop. Goodness sakes.”
Kaden and Andrew chuckled at her statement. That seemed good, seeing as it was normal for them to argue. Since when did water and fire ever gotten along, or wind and earth for that matter?
“Guys… how did the preliminary matches go?” Caila asked, her head hung low as the anxiety suddenly gnawed at her conscience.
Andrew smiled widely, showing the cute little dimples. “We managed to live through it! We didn’t lose anyone.”
She brought her head up, the side of her lips twitching upwards but the frown dominated. Kaden felt a frown appear on his features as well. Looking down at his pet sister, he forced a smile on her face with two fingers, trying to gait her with a smile of his own too but she was stubborn. That she was. The frown was plastered there.
“How can I smile…” she trailed off, her eyes downcast. “…When I can’t even feel my wolf? I cannot hear the whispers of the wind anymore. I cannot hear the stories they sing at night. My wolf is dead, isn’t she?”
Her last question seemed to be directed more to herself though. As much as she wanted to deny the fact, it didn’t help when she felt so hollow inside. Then the words whispered in her mind, words that Hale used to tell her.
“You’d be surprised how a little smile from you will actually affect others around you…”
How nice would it be to see Hale now, wouldn’t it?
Andrew, as well as Kaden, was lost. They didn’t understand what she meant. How could someone lose his or her wolf? It was unheard of in their history. Andrew turned to the door and went to lock it, not wanting to have anyone else hear this. Their next conversation was going to stay among these four walls, among the three of them.
“Did you truly find the keys, Kaden?” he questioned once the coast was clear.
“I – I don’t know…”
“How can you not know? You must have found them if Caila and the rest woke up!”
Caila watched the exchange silently. She had no clue on what was going on.
“I just decided I would wait for my mate! I wasn’t going to fall in love with someone else.”
Before Andrew could open his mouth, he was cut midsentence.
“Wait, wait. You’re what?” Caila spoke up.
Kaden turned towards her. “I’m planning to wait for my mate. I wasn’t going to be infatuated by any other girls.”
She furrowed her eyebrows. She had this tiny gut feeling that told her that was the keys those two were talking about but it wasn’t exactly correctly… phrased.
What was it then?
