“This…I don’t understand anymore.”
Kaden pursed his lips. How in the world did his problems actually help save his friends? He let out a groan and hung his head low while his fingers rubbed circles on his temples.
‘Ugh…migraine…’
With a dejected sigh, he got to his feet, losing all inspiration of music. He tried to play something; just anything that came into his mind but it was blank. As blank as a sheet of paper – or a music sheet in that case. He wanted to talk to someone. Andrew was busy, just like every other possible member of the pack. Biting his bottom lip, he thought of Caila. Usually, in times like this was when he’d see her but she’s in that comatose state. How could he go there?
Unless, he could just talk to her?
Yeah, he’ll do that. Just talk.
Dusting off the dirt on his clothes, he strapped the guitar over his back and walked back to Andrew’s house. In no time at all, he reached and came face to face with the room to her slumber. Nervousness wrecked inside him. He hadn’t seen her ever since he left the room that day. Not once had he ever stepped foot back in.
‘It was kind of forbidden…but still…’ he trailed off, his hand hovering above the doorknob.
Why was he being so afraid? Was it because he felt helpless in the whole situation? That he really needed his sister right now, more than ever, even if she wasn't related to him by blood.
Taking a deep breath, he twisted the doorknob and the door opened with ease and soundlessly. As his eyes lay upon the still figure on the bed, he took a sharp intake of air. This wasn’t how he envisioned seeing her. He stepped closer to her and kneeled by the bedside. Her complexion was paler than usual and her chocolate hair lay limp around her in soft waves. If he hadn’t known better, he would have thought she was sleeping. He watched her chest heave with every breath and a relieved smile broke out. At the very least, she was alive.
“Hey, Caila…” he mumbled, resting his chin in his hands on the bed. “Um, well…I don’t know where to start. Andrew found out that my problems are the keys to saving you guys. I don’t know what that means. How are my problems going to help?” He gulped. “You know how my problems are… I don’t know. First thing’s first, my love life. I’ve liked so many before…and sometimes it feels like love but then you’d always say it wasn’t. It was merely an infatuation.” A smile flitted onto his face at the memory. “You always gave me the support and advice. Thanks a lot, sis. I don’t think I ever thanked you, did I? You know about Salma now. No, she’s not salmon. I kind of don’t really like her anymore. She jumped to conclusions and said those things…they hurt a lot. Remember last year? When I was crushing on Zoe and Layla at the same time? You told me again it was just infatuation because of my hormones. You were right. After a few months, I didn’t feel anything anymore. What is it that I should do now? I don’t want to get distracted since the Moonlight Clash is coming soon and I need you.”
Then silence enveloped the room. Everything was still.
“I…I think I know what I should do. I can’t have my hormones getting in my way, right?”
He slipped his hand into hers, holding it tight with both of is. He couldn’t give her a hug, so he’ll just have to settle with that.
“Please, just wake up soon. Okay? You’re strong, sis. I know that. When you wake up, you’re going to kick some butt, all right?” Kaden forced a smile as he stood up, removing his hand from hers. He knew pretty much what he wanted and needed to do. Yeah, he pretty much did. There wasn’t any other way. “Patience is a virtue…”
