She jumped to the side, her body rolling on the ground as he swiped at the spot she was just at. Jumping to her feet, she jabbed at him twice in the stomach but it hardly affected her opponent. She felt the rush of wind next to her ear when she tilted her head to dodge his punch and then to the other side at the second punch, but what she didn’t calculate was his foot snapping straight at her jaw. She was sent stumbling back and she winced at the pain that started to form.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Did that hurt? I didn’t mean to.”
Caila sent her training partner a smile and brushed it off. “It’s fine. If not, how is this a training?”
Hale brushed his midnight curls away from his face, the worry lined on his forehead. His flint brown eyes were apologetic but his gaze was returned with one of playful annoyance as she glared at him.
“If you say so,” he shrugged.
He got into stance and waited, all jokes aside. She mirrored his actions and inhaled, flexing her muscles. Shifting her weight to her back foot, she lunged forward with her arm bent back.
This was her everyday training and had been so for a fortnight. After the day she and the three others woke up from coma, they were ordinary humans. Their wolves were dead and their elements gone, until the moment Kaden could figure out the reason why the ‘keys’ didn’t work fully. Hale was a very good friend of Kaden and Andrew, and Caila had no idea how she did not notice him before in the past years. It was thanks to Kaden that they met and thanks to Andrew that they were stuck as a team.
Then again, if they never met, if that never happened, she wouldn’t have gotten a best friend.
He ducked down, letting her punch fly overhead and he stretched a leg out, swiping her off her feet. She landed on the ground with a huff as a pout graced her lips. He felt a smile twitch onto his features at the sight but before he could blink, he face sprawled onto his back on the hard ground when she copied his attack, using it against him. Her laughter rang through the air, causing a few chuckles to escape from him as well. Contagious, wasn't it?
Hale pushed himself into a sitting position with his elbows propped up to find Caila kneeling whilst smiling innocently in front of him. Words were never exchanged between them. He raised a brow at her and she mimicked him, her smile growing wider. She stuck her tongue out at him and he rolled his eyes, though he couldn't deny the smile as well.
The main reason Hale was her training partner was because that was his specialty, speed and power. He wasn’t an adult wolf just yet since he was a couple of weeks younger than Kaden but he had honed his combat skills over time. Well that and because she wanted to spend time with him. Not only that, only recently had see been free. It wasn’t long after they were close that she was given the duty as a trainer and not long after that, she entered a coma. What joy did life wanted to bestow upon the young female?
Hale? Caila? Are you two there? Andrew called, his voice in question.
Caila locked gazes with Hale, her eyebrow arched. Yeah, we’re here. Hale is right in front of me now.
Okay, good. I need you two to do me a big favour, he sang and they could imagine the grin on his face.
This time Hale answered. What is it?
Listen to Kaden. That’s all! Thank you!
Listen to Kaden. That’s it? It wasn’t even a request. That was an order!
Hale sat up straight with his legs crossed Indian style, his hands on his ankles. Caila lifted her head just albeit to stare at him before tipping backwards to fall on the ground. His hand shot out instinctively to catch her arm, causing her body to jerk in mid-action. She let out a groan and pouted her lips, falling onto her bottom instead. She felt his hand release her arm, his fingertips brushing against her hand and a smile appeared involuntarily. There was something bubbling inside her, something warm and comforting.
