Ashton POV
We got home just after nine. You'd think that Sarah would mind, but she seemed happy about it. We told her about our day - a bit awkward maybe, but I was used to talking a lot with mom, so it wasn't really hard to open up. She was really glad everything had gone so well. It seemed like the perfect first day, especially cause Dan forbid me to talk of the most disturbing part of it.
I was really worried about Seth. I also felt disappointed that he didn't like us and confused about the whole situation. I wasn't really good with complicated issues, I didn't tend to think things through the way Dan did. If he said we shouldn't tell Sarah, if he said we should listen to Seth and not meddle, I did as I was told, but if he said there was nothing we can do and that we should let it go, I didn't accept that. Wouldn't accept it. So I dragged Dan to talk with Seth.
He shared a room with his sisters. Maybe it made more sense to share with us, but we have known each other for maybe a week. There was a paper screen dividing the room into pink and grey halves. We just presumed, for some reason, that Seth lived in the grey half.
Lizzie and Julie were there, but Seth was not. We decided to wait, hanging out with the girls. I'd thought we'd be forced to play with dolls, but it seems girls grow up way too fast, for they were talking about parties they've never been to and asked if we could take them to school one day so they could pretend they have high school boyfriends.
"What do you want?" came a sudden question from the doorway. Seth was back.
"Hey bro! Just wanted to hang out." Dan smiled at him.
"Come on! Talk to us! Don't be such a sourpuss," I whined at him, standing and dragging him into his own room. "Come sit!"
"You're giving me permission to sit. On my own bed."
"Yeah. You're welcome!"
Seth mumbled something angry under his breath, but sat down anyway. Lizzie and Julie were still here, talking about nothing, and Seth listened to us awkwardly.
"Have you guys seen the beach yet? Oh my god! You gotta go! Can't really swim there, it's more for surfing, but it's actually for checking people out, right!" Julie gushed.
"Yeah, we saw it today. Should go surfing soon, we can take you with," I offered.
"You guys surf? But you ain't from California even!"
"Hey, that's not the only place in the world you can surf. We lived like ten miles south from Jacksonville back there, there were great waves all year round."
"Phff! Plee-ease! That was not the Pacific."
"Oi, don't you diss the Atlantic, young lady!"
"We should go, then you'll see, the beaches of LA are the best."
"Yeah, sounds like a plan. Us five, tomorrow, after school."
Julie made a face. "Nooo! You can't bring Seth, he's a loser! We'll lose our reputation if our friends see us together."
Dan frowned at her. "How can you say that, he's your brother!" he demanded.
Julie started to explain, but before he could, Seth stood up. His angry face, however, was turned at Dan.
"I don't need you to protect me from my own sisters. And I wouldn't want to be seen hanging with some basketball jocks either." He stalked out of his own room, slamming the door behind him.
"But Charlie, we care about you!" I called after him, but he either didn't get the reference or didn't think it was funny. Probably former, as I am hilarious.
