{7} Peter sat in the booth, scanning his eyes over the menu while he waited. He had decided what he was going to eat almost 15 minutes ago - the time she was meant to arrive.
He was distracted as the bell rang and the door was pushed open. His head snapped up to see his ex girlfriend step through the entrance and slide in front of him as if she wasn't a quarter of an hour late.
"Hey Peter." She sighed, resting her hands in her lap and looking up at him.
"MJ, where have you been?" He exhaled heavily. "You know I get worried about these things." It was true - over their 13 month relationship, Peter was constantly worried when he didn't hear from her or she was late. He sees so much crime on a daily basis that it becomes an all consuming thought.
"Is that so?" She scoffed. "Because all you seem to care about is that girl!" She gritted her teeth but reminded herself she was in a public place and couldn't scream at him like she wanted to.
"It all comes back to Alice, of course." He nodded and leant back into his seat. "That's all we used to fight about." He shook his head and scoffed.
"Because she's all you ever thought about!" She quipped quickly, leaning forward. "She's dead and you continue to obsess over her every second you breathe!" MJ had exploded like this before - regularly. Mostly due to the idea Peter had feelings for Alice.
Peter paused for a second - he didn't know how to respond. MJ has no idea Alice was alive; it would only cause more feelings of anger and jealousy.
"She was my friend!"He defended, feeling the urge to protect the image of Alice Steel.
"You knew her for one day!"
"It's more than that - she understood me!"
"I understand you Peter! I may not be a superhero or have insane powers but I have been more than patient waiting for you to get over the ridiculous idea of having her in your life. She's gone."
How could he explain to her that Alice was alive? How could he tell MJ that she'd never understand him the way Alice would? It's not exactly an easy thing to say to someone who you care for.
"MJ, you know how I feel about you-"
"Do I, Peter? Do I?" She asked softly, looking away for a minute, trying to hide her emotions even though she knew perfectly well Peter could sense what she was feeling.
"Yes! Okay, I love you and you have to...."
Peter's sentence trailed off as he felt a familiar shiver travel up his spine and the hair on his body stood on end. He snapped his head to the window - watching for a moment. Nothing had happened yet but something bad was coming, he knew it.
