There is a swelling storm, and I'm caught up in the middle of it all
It comes and goes in waves, it always does

It had been a week since Alice was revived. Seven days of everyone walking on eggshells around her. 168 hours of emotional rollercoasters.

Including this one.

"I don't understand. She can't leave." Alice sobbed, using a tissue to wipe away the tears. "It's just summer."

Pepper sat half a foot away from the young hero, smiling lopsidedly at the innocence of Alice Steel.

"Why is she leaving, pepper?" She asked between cries.

"Because she feels Troy had betrayed and abandoned her. She's upset." Pepper couldn't believe Alice hadn't seen the High School Musical trilogy before - though, in her defence, her childhood wasn't exactly the epitome of happiness.

Alice had become so invested in the musical sequence playing on the large screen that she didn't notice Tony leaning against the doorframe. Her sadness vanished and anger was replaced as she thought about who was the root of Troy and Gabriella's  problem.

"Well if Sharpay wasn't such an attention seeking-"

"Maybe that's enough of High School Musical." He said, chuckling to himself before moving closer to the pair. He bent over just enough to press a kiss to Pepper's cheek before standing up again. "I just wanted to let you know that I'm heading out with Happy for a few hours. And a reminder that-"

"That we have an Asgardian friend paying us a visit at 2pm. And that we have a meeting with Secretary of Defence at 5 and that Bruce is over for dinner tonight." She reeled off with a cheeky grin. "I know."

"Knew there was a reason I kept you around." He laughed. "I love you, Miss Potts."

"I love you too, Mr Stark."

With another peck to the cheek, Tony was gone and left the two girls alone once again. Alice turned back to the screen so Pepper wouldn't think she had sat there awkwardly watching the adorable exchange.

Silence coated the pair for a moment, the only sound being the dialogue between the characters of the movie Alice had long since forgotten about.

"How do you know you love Tony?" She asked exasperatedly, as if she had just let out a thought she'd been pondering for so long.

Well she had - 79 hours to be exact.

Pepper was taken by surprise. "What do you mean?" She asked politely, doing her best not to offend Alice and send her spiralling into yet another meltdown. When she got to a point, she became inconsolable and the only way to get her to snap out of the haze was the let Alice have the chance to let out all of the emotions she didn't understand.
