"I STILL DON'T understand

"I STILL DON'T understand. How can Shadowhunters be better than than what you people call mundanes?" Clary asked as the shadowhunters and Apollo walked through the institute. They all had sullen looks on their faces, whether it was because of the kidnapped human, Clary didn't know.

"Because we protect humans." Izzy told the girl, however the look on her face said that she didn't exactly feel like a shadowhunter in that moment.

"You're right. Humans. You protect humans. You left Simon all alone in the van. Great job, guys. You rock." Apollo rolled his eyes at Clary. She didn't understand why Apollo wasn't backing her up here.

"Clary, stop blaming Izzy for this. This is more your fault then hers. You brought Simon into this, not Izzy." Apollo hissed at the ginger.

Clary blinked back at Apollo but brushed off his words. Of course this wasn't Clary's fault. It was anyone but Clary's fault.

"There is some truth to the idea that human beings should have a modicum of common sense." Alec spoke up. Apollo elbowed him in the ribs, giving him an amused look.

"Alec, not now. Look, they won't do anything to Simon. They just wanted to draw you out. They want the Cup, and they think you have it." Jace told the group, but it was obvious that it was directed at Clary.

"But why do they think that? Why does anyone think that? What, my mom lies to me my entire life except, "Oh, by the way, there's this magic cup, I hid on, like, the planet Bongo, but don't tell anyone." What am I supposed to do now?" Clary complained again, throwing her hands around like a spoilt child. Apollo slapped the girls hands down, shooting her an annoyed look.

"We have to report to the Clave." Alec told the group. Apollo nodded, understanding what Alec had to do. He wasn't new to the system.

"Great." Jace groaned.

"They have to know what we've learned about Valentine." Alec defended himself, not that he needed to. Apollo linked his pinky with Alec's, trying to give him a small sense of comfort during this stressful time.

"What, that he's my father? Great. Fine. Tell them. What good does that do Simon?" Clary shot back.

"Clary! Stop being a spoiled little brat. This is how things are done in this world." Apollo snapped at the girl, not even bothering to hide his snarl. "And this is the world that you're living in now. You play by their rules, not by your own." Clary just ignored the god, but Alec gave him a thankful smile. Alec unlinked their pinkies, and linked their hands instead, both as a comfort and as a thank you.

"Clary, it's all connected. The vamps want the Cup." Jace looked at Alec and Apollo's hands, confusion written all over his face, yet he said nothing.

"Why? It makes new Shadowhunters." Clary rolled her eyes.

"Nobody wants Valentine forming an army loyal to himself."

"Plus, it controls demons." Apollo cut in, an uncomfortable look on his face.
