14: Recovery and Happiness

Just after I wake up, the doctor walks in and checks some charts before smiling at me and saying "Peter, you can go home! You'll come back in 6 days to get the bandages completely off, in the meantime change the dressings every two days. No showers yet, but you can gently wipe your chest down with warm water. The nurse gave May a packet on everything earlier, so you should be all set!"

"Thanks Dr.Greene"

An hour later, I'm being wheeled out to the car as Tony and May sign me out of the hospital. With a fresh dose of pain meds in me, I should be pain free for most of the car ride home, so I decide to relax and listen to music while Alex draws in a new sketch book I got him last week. The car ride passes in a foggy haze, and before I know it we're about ten minutes away from the tower, and I'm close to tears from the pain surrounding my chest.

Aunt may hands me a pill, and I down it without water, not even caring at this point because I'm in too much pain. The medicine takes almost half an hour to take affect, and by the time I get up to my room, the pain is already starting to ebb. The only downside to pain medicine is that it makes me drowsy, although I guess cuddling with my boyfriend isn't the worst way to spend the coming week.

Alex stays with me all week, only leaving the tower to go to work a few times and grab some clothes from his house. His parents even come to visit me twice, which is nice and not as awkward as I thought it might be. They're really supportive of me being trans and Alex being bi, which is rad.

By the third day I'm in almost no pain, the only issue being that my chest is really tight and I can't lift my arms too much. I miss going on patrol, and it sucks that I won't be able to go on patrol for another two weeks, but that's better than eight weeks like it should be. Before surgery, Dr.Banner gave me a shot that basically disabled my superpowers for a week so that Dr.Greene could safely do the surgery. He says once the healing powers in my body return sometime this week, it'll only take two weeks for me to fully heal which is great.

Today is Friday, which means I get my drains out in two days. There's barely any blood in them and I can get away with cleaning them only once a day now. I'm going crazy bein stuck in the tower so MJ and Ned are taking me out for ice cream while Alex is at work.

I put on some jeans and a button up shirt with a zip up hoodie over it, and by the time I'm ready, they're in the kitchen talking with May and Tony. "Be careful underoos, you're still healing." Tony says as we walk towards the elvator. "Got it Dad, dont worry." I shout back before getting into the elevator.

After I've cream, Um exhausted from socializing and lay on my bed, planning on taking a nap but I ended up sleeping for 15 hours. When I wake up, I help Dad in the workshop and then go to meet Alex for coffee. It's a nice day out so we walk for a bit, but my chest hurts so we come back to the compound end up playing mario kart. I crush him, of course. Before I know it it's the next day and i'm on my way to get my drains out and truly see my chest for the first time.

Once we get to the doctors office, Dad, Alex, May and I sit in the waiting room for ten minutes. I'm anxious and my leg bounces up and down, almost as if it has a mind if it's own. Soon enough my name is called and we're brought into a medical room. I'm told to lay down on the bed, and the nurse unwraps my chest. Dr.Greene walks in and before I know it, I'm staring down at my flat chest, with no tubes in it and no bandages on it. i'm in awe and almost start crying. I look around the room at those who love me, and I realize just how lucky I am to be alive. I'm truly happy, and things couldn't be more perfect.

I'm sorry for the rushed ending but I hope you enjoyed my story, I might begin a new story with similar ideas based on the timeline after endgame, but i'm not sure yet. Thanks for reading!!
