~~~Cale's POV~~~
It was Saturday afternoon and I was laying in bed thinking. I like Grant. I like Grant Carpenter. I like him. I finally excepted the fact that I had feelings for him. I like him and I think he likes me. But there was only one way to find out for sure. I took out my phone and found Zoey Blake's contact. She had given I to me when she asked me to sit with her and and her friends at lunch on my first day.
The phone rang a couple time before someone picked up, "Hello?"
"Zoey?!" I asked desperately.
"Yea. Cale?"
"Yea, it's me."
"Oh what are calling about?"
"I....I need to know how Grant feels about me." There was a moment of silence.
"Why do...you need to know?" She asked.
"Because....because I....I like him." I mumbled. Zoey gasped.
"You like him?! You like Grant?!" She squealed.
"Y-Yea....so how does he feel about me?" I asked slightly embarrassed.
"I guess you'll have to ask him yourself." Zoey laughed before hanging up. What the hell?
I put the phone down and stared at it. Hesitantly, I picked it back up and dialed a number.
"Hello?" I heard a voice on the other line.
"Hey Grant?" I said.
"C-Cale?" He stuttered.
"Y-Yea. If you're available.....can you meet me at the ice cream shop downtown in a few minutes?" I mumbled slowly. He was silent for a moment.
"S-Sure." He finally said.
"Okay, see you there." I said and hung up.
I laid back on my bed letting out a sigh. I hoped what I had in mind was gonna work.
I got up and went downstairs.
"Hey Cale." Danny said to me. He was in the kitchen eating, "You going somewhere?"
"Yea I'm meeting Grant at the ice cream shop downtown. There's something I want to tell him." I said.
He have me a small smile, "Good luck." He knew what I was gonna do. It was kind of obvious.
I grabbed my keys and left the house.
++++++++++
I parked in front of the ice cream shop and went inside. Grant was already there. He noticed me and stood up from the table he was at and walked over to me.
"Hey..." He greeted me.
"...Hey." I replied as he fiddled with his fingers nervously.
"I decided to wait until you got here to get ice cream." He said looking away from me.
"That's okay. What did you want?" I asked him.
"Two scoops of chocolate chip cookie dough." (Author-My favorite ice cream flavor!!!)
He handed me the money and I went and got our ice cream. I walked back over to him and handed him his.
"So what did you want to hang out with me for this time?" He questioned me.
I shrugged, "I just wanted to talk about some stuff. The park's not that far. Wanna walk down there?"
He nodded his head, licking his ice cream. Now that I took a better look at him, he was actually pretty cute. His brown hair was short and laid right on top of his head and he had deep blue eyes. They were gorgeous. And he had a nose ring. And when he licked his ice cream you could see he also had an adorable little tongue piercing.
We left the shop and walked down to the park. There were a lot of people there, mainly parents and kids. Grant sat down on a bench. I sat too but on the top part and put my feet on the actually seat.
"Who exactly were those guys who almost beat you up and why were they trying to?" I asked him. He stopped eating his ice cream and turned away from me.
"Kyal, Vince, and Marcus. They just bully me because I'm weak and can't do anything about it." He mumbled.
"But you let them." I said concerned.
"I can't fight them on my own but I don't want anyone else to get hurt because I can't protect myself."
"But that doesn't mean you have to just let the beat the shit out of you, ya know."
"But what could I possibly do? It's always three against one? I can't even take Kyal if it was just him."
"If others are willing to get hurt for you, it means that they care. You shouldn't force them not to help you because you're being selfish."
"How am I being selfish?!" He said turning to me getting angry.
"You're being selfish because your not taking anyone else's feelings into consideration. You're only thinking about your own feelings."
He calmed and licked his ice cream and sighed.
"I don't like seeing others get hurt and know it's my fault." His eyes started to water.
"And others don't like seeing you get hurt knowing that it's their fault they didn't help you." He looked up in my eyes as a tear fell down his cheek. I threw my cone in the garbage can next to us and pulled him into a hug.
"I...I want to protect you. You don't deserve to get hurt they way you do." I whispered. He buried his face in my chest as more tears fell from his face. I cupped his face and pulled his head up, making him look at me.
I wanted to be there for him. When he needed help I wanted to be the one to help him. He was like one of the adorable little abandoned puppies that couldn't take care of itself. I wanted to protect him, keep him away from those who hurt him. I wanted to care for him as much as he cared for me and him to care for me as much as I cared for him.
"Grant.....will you be my boyfriend?"
