"Ouuu, Cassie, who was that boy that you hugged goodbye?" Cass' mom asked, before starting the car and driving out of the pickup area.
Cass blushed and began to think of an excuse, "He's just a friend mom..."
"Oh yeah? Well, what's his name?" Cass' mom asked.
"Lucas..." Cass responded.
"Aw, my little Cassie loves Lucasss." Cass' mom said, bantering with her. Cass blushed even more, so she covered her face with her two hands.
"Mommmmmmm" Cass said, in a complaining tone.
"You know what would be the perfect ship name for you two?" Cass' mom said.
"Mom, please-" Cass said before she got interrupted by her mom.
"Lassie." Cass' mom said. At this point, Cass just stayed quiet while her mom asked several questions about Lucas. The whole car ride was like a living hell for Cass, sure, she loves her mom, but it's times like these when she just wants to jump out of the car. Once they got home, Cass when to the fridge and took out pasta. She put it into the microwave and started texting people while she waited. Ariana, a girl in eighth grade, was texting her at the time. Cass asked her if they could talk on the phone, of course, Ariana let her. Cass dialed Ariana and she picked up the phone.
"Hey, Spoocy," Ariana said.
"Hey, Ari," Cass said, while she was at the table, still waiting for her pasta.
"I have so much tea to spill!" Ariana shouted.
"Spill it, sista," Cass told Ariana in a goofy tone.
"Okay, so I told my crush that I liked him, and guess what?" Ariana paused for a moment, "He said he likes me too!"
"Oh, well I told Lucas," Cass said in a quiet but understandable voice. The microwave beeped, signaling that the pasta was ready.
"Told him what?" Ariana asked. Cass got up from her seat to take out the pasta.
"Hold up, let me move to my room," Cass said while carrying her phone and pasta to her room.
"Okay," Ariana obliged, but as soon as she heard the door to Cass' room, she continued, "So what did you tell Lucas?"
"I told him the truth," Cass replied.
"That you like him?" Ariana wondered.
"Yeah-" Cass said before being barraged with questions from Ariana.
"Oh my God, what did he say? Does he like you back? Did you guys kiss? Did you make out? What was it like? Are you pregnant?" Ariana asked.
"He said that he felt the same way towards me. Turns out he does actually like me back, which I always doubted. Did we kiss? Um... yeah, but not in the way you think. No, we did not make out. When I kissed him, it felt as if I finally got something off my chest, and his cheek was warm even when it was snowing. And, no, why would I be pregnant?"
"Wait, wait, wait. What type of cheeks?" Ariana said before bursting into laughter.
"You know which cheeks I'm talking about," Cass said with a slight chuckle at the end.
"Haha, I'm sorry, I had to," Ariana said.
"Okay, so, Lucas invited me to the theater, but I haven't told my mom and I don't even know what to wear," Cass said in a worried tone of voice.
"Oh, that's not good..." Ariana said, trying to think of something, "I think it's best you ask your mom first."
"Okay, then I'll call you back, I don't want you to hear her yelling at me haha," Cass said.
"Okie dokie," Ariana obliged.
"See ya," Cass said.
"Bye-Bye," Ariana said. Cass hit the "End Call" button and left her room to talk to her mom. Luckily, Cass' mom was in her room by herself, so her dad wouldn't hear.
"Mom, can I tell you something, but you have to promise you can't tell dad," Cass told her mom in a quiet voice.
"Yeah, what is it?" Her mom asked.
"Lucas invited me to the movies and I really want to go," Cass said.
"Sure, when?" She wondered.
"Tomorrow at 6:00 p.m," Cass replied.
"Ouuu, what are you gonna wear?" Her mom wondered.
"About that... I don't know..." Cass confessed, "It's 'cause I want to look cute for him but what if he doesn't like it," Cass said in a sad and sorrowful voice.
"Oh, honey, if he loves you, he won't care what you wear. Just know that men don't care about what they wear. Except they all like it when you wear this," Cass' mom opened the palm of her hand and showed it to Cass.
"That's literally nothing," Cass said, confused.
"Exactly," Her mom said. It took a while for Cass to understand, but when she finally got it, she was in shock.
"Oh my God, Mom!" She shouted, slightly smiling, "I swear, he's not like that."
"Sure, but, tomorrow, I promise we can go shopping for clothes. We'll have to get up early in the morning so we can get back at 3:00 p.m," Cass' mom said.
"Okay, Mom," Cass said, about to leave the room.
"For now, finish whatever you took to your room and sleep," Cass' mom told her.
"Okay," she responded, heading back to her room. After a couple of minutes, Cass finished her food and threw the paper plate away. She changed into her pajamas and laid down on her bed. She proceeded to pull the blanket over her body and curled up. Sleeping had never been so hard, the only thing on her mind was her and Lucas. She was thinking of all the amazing things that they would do together, from holding hands to getting married. She even thought of the two of them doing it. She was full of excitement, and it was incredibly difficult to fall asleep thinking of him. Eventually, she did fall asleep, and she could only dream of what would happen between the two on their date.
