Mermaid AU II

What's this? two chapters in the same month? wow-

Decided to do a sequel to the first thing I wrote for this book - per a request - and bc i wanted to. Also, warning, this one is not very good, at all. Also got some questions at the end of the chapter, make sure to read those

Draco's POV

"Look, Granger, I really don't need this. I'm perfectly content where I am."

The young merman was swimming in lazy circles in the lake that had been dubbed his own. He was floating on his back - eyes shut, and to someone who was just looking, he could have just been asleep. The annoyed tone that he was directing at the half-fairy would say otherwise. 

"But Draco! Consider the possibilities! You could do so much,"

"Yes, but, once again, I'm quite happy how I am." 

"Draco, come on!"

"No." The merman flicked his tail so that he was swimming normally, he swam easily over the the edge of the lake where Hermione was stood, folding his arms carefully by her feet. "Look.. Hermione.. I don't- I don't need this. If I'm being honest, I don't really want this. I don't need legs, no matter how painless the potion is."

The blonde boy looked up at Hermione through his lashes, not entirely bothered to lift his head up completely, instead of moving, he opted to mumble into his arms,

"Anyway, the others will show up soon, lets not be arguing when they do,"

"Oh, fine, but we aren't dropping this conversation entirely"

The blond merman nodded his head, straightening his arms to do so. He then pushed himself backwards into the water, tail bending awkwardly for a second until he could find a more comfortable position to swim in.

Thinking about the others, he was rather happy for a distraction. Hermione had been trying to convince him to take a potion she had been working on. She insisted that it was a painless way to change his tail into legs. She assured him that it wasn't permanent - lasting maybe 2 days, but he just really didn't think it would end well. 

His train of though was interrupted by the feeling of another presence on the water. 

Draco spun around and offered a quick smile to Blaise and Pansy, now making their way across the surface of the water, both setting off ripples on the lake. With the arrival of the pair of water nymphs, usually said that the fairy and elf would burst into the clearing, apologising for sleeping in late. 

As per usual, the leaves behind Hermione began rustling, right before Harry and Ron burst through the clearing, flying and running respectively.

"So sorry we're late! We slept in!" The ravenette fairy looked particularly distressed as he kept firing off excuses as to why they were late, only stopping when he saw the rather amused expressions of the other people there,

"I know, we do this every time, doesn't stop me from feeling bad," 

"We know, we know Harry, doesn't make it any less amusing" Hermione was smiling happily as she tried to 'assure' Harry that all was fine, which seemed to work for some reason,

"Anyway, 'Mione, did you talk to Draco about the.. well-"

"Oh no, not you too. I am not taking that stupid potion!"

Pansy and Blaise walked closer to the edge of the water, near to where everyone was standing, swimming and hovering. The two of them and Ron looking rather. Pansy was frowning, looking between Harry, Hermione and Draco,

"Potion? Dray you haven't mentioned a potion?"

"Thats because I only asked him about it this morning, before you got here,"

"And! I told you I'm not taking it!" Draco huffed and splashed the water with his tail, which was childish, but he wanted to get his point across. The other few people ignored him and continued to talk. even Ron joined in - even though potions was not his strong point - it wasn't Harry's either but hey,

"Ok but 'Mione, what does it do?" 

"If I made it correctly, it should change his tail into legs for about 2 days - if that."

"Oh! Hermione that's amazing!" Pansy ran over grabbing the other girls shoulders with a smile "That could be really useful! Dray you should give it a go"

Hermione coughed awkwardly at the praise, smiling triumphantly over Pansy's shoulder, to where Draco was still pouting,

"I'm quite happy with my tail, thank you very much!"

This argument continued for quite some time, until it became clear that Draco was the only one who didn't want him to take the damned potion.

Draco knew he had lost when Harry joined in - even though he was going to make a show of it.

"Draco, please?" Harry was hovering over the lake, trying to get as close to the merman as he could, he looked strangely serious.

"Oh my goodness fine! I'll try the damn potion! You're all insufferable,"

Pansy jumped up with a smile, turning towards Hermione with a bright, almost giddy grin

"Do you have it on you?"

The brunette girl smiled back, cheeks warm, and dug around in a leather bag she had brought with her that day. She made a triumphant noise and pulled out a glowing blue vial, shaking it lightly before passing it carefully to the still very annoyed merman,

"Be careful with it, try drink it all at once - it will be very spicy.. or sour, one of the two"

Draco sighed and pulled the cork of the bottle, recoiling away from the sickeningly sweet smell.

"Well, here goes nothing." The blond soon-to-be-human tipped his head back and drunk up as much of the potion as he could in one go, internally cringing at the sour taste now going down his throat. As soon as he finished he couldn't help coughing.

"Merlin what is in this thing, its so sour!"

Hermione shrugged and waved her hand dismissively, instead watching the blond with keen eyes.

Draco felt his stomach drop, followed by a burning sensation in his tail fin and where his ribs were. He swam uneasily to the edge of the water, beginning to cough violently. He looked up at his friends concerned faces before his stomach lurched once more.

He threw up all over the grass.

Ok I'm going to end this one here, really sorry about the quality - I am working on a part 3 to this and I promise we'll have some quality Drarry then. Anyway, random question- how would you guys feel about some kind of contest/QnA if I get to 10k reads? I'll decide what to to later but it'd be nice to have some suggestions!
