Sunday was fun, taking Artemis out like that was a spur of the moment idea, but worth every second. She's actually really fun to be around if you can just break through her defences, which, personally, Wally thinks he's pretty good at doing. He wasn't needed rehearsals tonight, it was just the Heathers so that they could go over Candy Store ready for dance rehersals on Thursday, which meant he wasn't needed then either. So, after careful deliberation at school all day, he phoned up Artemis.

"Yo, what do you want?" She answered on the third ring.

"Arty, hi," He said.

"Wally, oh. Sorry, I didn't read the caller I.D," She instantly said, "But still, what do you want?"

"I was wondering, since we don't have rehersals tonight maybe you wanted to meet up and do something? Just the two of us again," He said, his other hand twirling a pencil between his fingers.

"Oh. Um. I'd love to, it's just that I've got a lot of stuff going on at the moment," She started and Wally felt his heart drop, "Maybe we could do it another time though."

"Um, I, yeah. Sure," He said, "I'm cool with that. See you tomorrow then."

"Yeah, see you tomorrow," She echoed and hung up.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid! Why would she want to hang out with me again? I'm not her type, I'm too stupid for her. She needs someone with brains, someone with wits, someone like...

He quickly picked up his phone and dialled another number.

"Wally, my man, what's up?" He answered almost straight away.

"I need to see you in person. This is important," He said.

"Where?" His tone instantly became serious.

"Kane Diner near your place," Wally said, "I'm heading there now."

"See you in a minute then," He said and hung up.

Wally arrived before him, of course, he had superspeed on his side and he had to walk.

"Wally, what's up?" He asked as he came in and we seated ourselves in a booth.

"Okay. So on Sunday, I ran into Artemis and we spent some time together and came for a meal here," I explained, "I thought it was awesome and that we should spend some more time with just the two of us and I thought she felt the same way. So I called her up tonight to ask if she wanted to spend some time with me but she turned me down because she has 'stuff' going on and now I think she knows I like her and it's just going to make things awkward between us becuase I don't want to lose her becuase of some stupid mistake."

"Okay, okay," He said, "Two steps back here. You like Artemis?"

"Of course I do, you know that," Wally bit back at his smirk.

"Okay, so maybe I do," He said, "But she wasn't lying to you. I know you want to know more but I can't tell you about what she's doing but I can tell you that if she wasn't busy she would have gone with you. She thinks we don't know you at school, she talks about the amazing Kid Flash all the time. Her life's just different from ours, she has to spend more time making it work out."

"So she wasn't just turning me down becuase she doesn't like me?" Wally asked, his hope rising again.

"No. God, no," He laughed, "She likes you, dude. You just need better timing. I'll tell you what, ask her tomorrow after rehearsal. If it all goes wrong I'll be there, but I don't think it will."
