"Bullet is now out. She's going to be just fine. Good job everybody."
I move my hand over to Scott's and move mine into his.
Both of us sitting in the waiting room waiting for Melissa to get out of surgery.
He looked over at me the same time I looked at him as he both just let out the amount of air we had both been holding since the moment we brought everyone into the hospital.
He gripped my hand back as I leaned into his shoulder and shedded a few tears.
Melissa has been my mom since I first met them. Before mom died, she was always just a second mom. I had one at each home. I would go to Scott's house with stiles, and there she was. Melissa would always be with me.
And when I went home, mom would always be with me.
And after mom died, Melissa stepped up even more.
If we lost her, I have no idea what I would do.
Malia has just entered the hospital waiting room and sat right next to us.
She gave Scott and I a look, waiting for our answer.
We both nodded our heads at her and she also let out a breath.
Her hands landed on mine and Scott's and the three of us sat there together.
It took about 20 minutes until the Doctor (Liams stepdad) came out.
"She is doing just fine. The bullet missed all arteries and vital organs. She is actually extremely lucky."
"Umm... would we be able to see her?" I asked
He gave me a warm smile
"Yeah Lace. You both can go in. She's going to fall asleep soon though from the medication."
Scott and I nodded
"Okay, thank you."
Tears were still in my eyes as I looked up at Liam's stepdad.
His head tilted to the side as he opened his arms for me.
I chuckled slightly and walked right in them. His arms wrapped around me and he held me close.
"You are such a strong person Lacey. And so is Melissa. I know that you will both get through all the crazy happening in this town."
I hugged him tighter and let go but his hands remained on my shoulders.
"And remember, if you ever need anyone or a place to stay our doors are always open, Alright?"
"Okay. Thank you." I smiled.
I walked passed him and turned to Scott who was just awkwardly standing by.
"Ready?"
He cleared his throat
"Yeah."
We both stood by one another and turned a corner. Melissa's room was just a few doors down.
We both had knocked, which didn't really seem necessary since we both just opened the door right after.
There was a nurse giving her medication through her IV.
She looked at us as soon as we walked in and nodded, grabbing her gear.
"The meds will put her to rest soon." She whispered to us.
We both nodded and cleared the way for her to leave, then closed the door and made our way over to the sides of Melissa's bed.
"Hey kids.." Melissa said. God her voice has never sounded worse. It sounded like her throat had been cut by a dozen razor blades. All tough and rigid.
We both just glanced at her. Scott stayed standing while i did the same.
He sighed
"I'm gonna wait outside..." he said in a soft voice.
I didn't know what to do but follow. I understood exactly what he was feeling.
That this was our fault.
"No, wait guys..." she called out her voice rasping.
We both stopped in our tracks, and slowly started to make our way back to our previous spots.
She grabbed our hands and held on tight. I was holding on as tight as I possibly could without hurting her.
"Both of you, listen to me.." she said.
She took in a huge breath of air and let out a few coughs as Scott and I just focused on her with tears in our eyes and our hearts dropped.
"You guys didn't do this.."
"But. I'm responsible mom.."
"And I should have seen it coming." I added
"You need sleep." Scott finished
"I need..." she started. Taking in more breaths.
"I need to you both.."
"It can wait mom." Scott interrupted
"No. It can't wait." She said, stopping him from speaking.
She kept breathing heavily and her grip on our hands tightened.
"Don't run. Okay. You both... need to fight."
Her eyes were heavy, and her chest seemed to be the same way.
There was steady beeping noises in the room as she stayed still in her bed.
I grabbed her hand with both of mine and brought it to my lips. Tears falling down my eyes.
"I-.... I love you mom." I said.
Melissa opened her eyes to that and looked at me lazily, giving me a smile and petting the back of my head with her hand slowly.
A few more tears slid down as I looked up at Scott and saw tears falling down his cheeks as well.
'We should go' he mouthed. I simply nodded and quietly got up from the chair.
Scott leaned down to give her forehead a kiss. And we both waited there with her until she was fully asleep, then decided to walk out.
The door closed gently behind us as Scott went to the next door and opened it, showing no one in the room.
"Where is he?" Scott panicked, dad was just now walking up to us as Scott rushed for him
"Where's my dad?"
"Don't worry, he was transferred to a different hospital." Dad confirmed.
"Lydia? Mason?" I asked next.
"All Of them are okay." Dad waved us with his hands.
"Liam is with mason as we speak, Theo decided to stay with Lydia and give us any details if we need them."
Scott and I both let out another puff of air.
"Thank god.." I whispered, pressing my hand up against my chest and leaning against the hospital walls.
"Guys I swear, whomever did this we are going to find them and bring them to justice." Dads voice was very serious and strict. But did he really not have a clue?
"I know who did this. And you should too.." Scott replied back, he started walking down the hallway and I thought that as my cue to follow him. Something tells me that we are going to be doing something either really smart or something really stupid...
"Where are you guys going?" Dad shouts from down the hall
Scott turned around without stopping and shouted back to him.
"To get the backup plan."
Oh no...
and once again. I wasn't sure if going to him was something really smart, or something really stupid.
"Alright, you go there. I'll be at Deatons."
Scott nodded towards me and we went our separate directions.
I wanted to follow him, and ignore going to the clinic. But I knew that Deatons news awaited me, no matter how long I avoided them.
