She didn't falter, the determination coming from her was as unstoppable as her everlasting curiosity."You heard me." Brite was now bringing both legs up to the bed, she crossed them and the bed responded with its annoying squeak. Despite the sounds that came from the cheap bed it was quite comfortable. It was surprising to the both of them when they didn't feel springs stabbing their flesh.
She stared at Drift with sparkling eyes filled with wonder. The bombardment of questions left his mind full and he silently wondered where her shy, quiet, and distant personality went. Drift bothered to sit up, matching her eyes with his in a sense of respect for engaging in such a personal conversation.
"Oh! And as your friend, go ahead and ask me questions too."
Noted.
He rubbed the back of his neck, sighing while he searched his mind on where to start and how to word it. Brite remained silent, attentively waiting and listening.
"Just like everyone back on Earth I had a normal lifestyle. I'm nobody special, I just happened to be the human to be transported into a damn game but.." Drift spent a minute to lean back against the headboard, letting his eyes move off of hers.
"I'll start from my childhood."
-
"Drift..? Spelled exactly as it's said, right hun?"
Pre-school.
The place where teachers constantly ask me about my name and how to spell it.
I don't do anything but nod.
"Well, I'm your teacher, you may call me Mrs. Higgins, or Mrs.H for short."
She looks young for a teacher.
I nod again.
"You don't have to be scared, hun, go on and speak."
Her icy blue eyes made me feel warm, I wasn't sure how but I felt as if I could trust this lady. It's rare to see a person like her, almost white hair and really pale skin. Maybe she was an alien from another planet.
"Hi, M..Mrs.."
Her name was hard to say. The "Misses" part especially.
"Mrs.H.." I ended up settling for the easier one, I couldn't be bothered to say her full name.
She must've been pleased because the smile on her face got wider. I always thought teachers were too nice, sometimes they smile so hard it scares me.
Mrs.H didn't smile too hard though. I was happy. My old teacher left because she got too old, but I was told that somebody took her away and buried her. I thought the one about her being too old was more believable, so I stuck with that.
"Now.." She shifted in her seat, oh no. When teachers do that they get serious, "I know you weren't here yesterday to go over the rules, but Drift. You shouldn't be fighting."
I knew it.
"He started it!" I immediately yelled my defense, but she shook her head.
"You can't hit people, Drift. That's not nice."
"But calling me names isn't nice either!"
"Lower your voice, please. I'm not going to put you in time-out, but I need you to apologize to Ian."
"But he-"
"No buts, he's hurt really bad and I'll have to call your parents for this."
My heart sank, I didn't want momma coming to my school again. She always gets sad when I fight and dad always says 'good job defending yourself.'
