AMRIT'S POV
The days passed and soon came the grand day, or whatever everyone was calling it.
The day of my Svayamvar is here. And I don't know what I should feel. Should I feel happy? Or sad? Or confused?
I was woken up too early. by Rukmini and Satyabhama saying that I will have to do a lot of shringar, which theycalled 16 shringar for unmarried women. They explained that it will take a lot of time.
I just feel so empty. I never thought I will have to marry a man whom I never loved. I mean the idea of getting eloped is almost declined now.
If my soulmate hasn't eloped me till now, will he really be able to elope me in the svayamvar, in front of everyone? I doubt that.
I was given a very rich bath by the dasis.
One of the dasis was telling me what are the stuffs they applying in my body.
First, they applied some sort of nariyal tel (coconut oil) with a nice fragrance on my hair. Then they washed my hair with the mixture of Brahmi, Shikakai, Aloe Vera, Bhringraj, Amla etc.
A paste of oil, milk, turmeric powder, sandal wood powder, and gram flour and some fragrant herbs was then applied in my hands, arms, legs and face.
I smell so good now. I am in love with this fragnance now.
Then they washed me throughly.I was then taken to the dressing table where they started drying my hair.
They made a long braid out of my hair and decorated it with gajra and flowers.
After that they made me wear a heavy red saree.
They attached a maangtikka made of gold in my head.
They drew a few red and white lines on my forehead which resembled bindis.
They applied deep black kajal which had a cooling effect on my eyes.
They made me wear nose ring, necklaces and earrings made of gold.
I look really beautiful in all these. I never thought I would think this. But these are really heavy, I don't think I can even walk. Now I know why brides take so much time .
Then came armlets and bangles.
Now I am double of my weight.
They had already applied mehendi in my hands and legs yesterday.
I hate mehendi's smell to be honest.
Now, I was made to wear haathphool (four rings) and Aarsi (thumb ring) in both my hands.
It's not my wedding today. It is just the svayamvar.
Then it was the turn of heavy kamarband (waistband).
And then payal, toe-ring, and alta(mahur).
And Finally it was done.
Hey bhagwan! I never even thought about getting this much ready.
If I was in my era, I would hardly wear half of this jewelleries on my wedding.
But like I have said before, it's too heavy.
Suddenly Devaki Maa, Rohini Kaki and Radha Kaki entered.
"Haaye! Amrit, you are looking no less than a goddess" Rohini Kaki exclaimed as they walked over to me.
