Maya was adopted by Stef and Lena at nineyears old.Both knew Maya as Brandon's best friend at school because he would never stop talking to her and he begged his moms to talk to her on the phone when he got home.One night Brandon even managed to sneaked her in his room so they could have a sleepover.When Stef and Lena went to kiss him goodnight they noticed both of them asleep on the bed.
They left them to sleep but the next morning they called Maya's home phone to tell her mom.Maya's mom seemed like she couldn't care less and was glad to get Maya off her hands.They told Maya she can stop hiding in the closet that morning and provided her breakfast and essentials.

Stef went to pick up Brandon from school running really late and noticed the best friends on the swings together being the last kids on the playground."Sorry I'm late love I got caught up at work."Stef said out of breath.
"Hey there Maya.Where's your mom?You must be ready to got home."Stef said to her in a sweet voice."I don't know.Sometimes she's late but not like this but I'll just wait."Maya said with her little voice."How bout this I'll take you and Brandon for ice cream then take you home.How does that sound huh."
Maya jumped up out of the swing so excited because of what Stef said."Yeah!"

Stef went to walk Maya to her door while Brandon waited in the car.She knocked on the door but the door just opened by itself.Stef held on to Maya's hand skeptical of what might happened because the door was unlocked.When they walked in all they can see is Maya's mom unconscious on the old torn up couch with a needle in her arm,and white foam coming out her mouth.
