Go Away

Shikamaru fumbled lightly with the cigarette in his hands. With relief he inhaled the cancer stick, gracefully blowing out a puff of smoke. It didn't matter how much times he was told to quit, he could not. It was one of his many bad habits.
The air was crisp and the streets were silent. Where could he have gone? He pondered aimlessly turning his head side to side. The Nara saw when the blonde ran out the Hokage's office crying, making him grimace. They told him, didn't they? He never thought they had the balls to do it. It was never his place to say anything. Everybody loved Sakura, no one knew why the killer did what they did. There were many speculations as to who they might have been, but no concrete answer. So many innocent lives lost because he couldn't do his job.
"Oh please, you watched, and didn't even bother to do anything." His hands balled into a fist, gritting his teeth. He refused to face it.
"You were so scared, you couldn't even move." He forced the tears back down, counting in the back of his mind. He would Not be weak. Not Today.
"What game are you playing at?" His voice came out low and monotoned. A giggle, followed by the sudden chill.
"Oh? Feigning strength I see. Very different from what usually happens," He blew out another air of smoke, cursing, "I am impressed, Shika-kun."
"Don't fucking call me that." He snapped at the creature. He broke out into a cold sweat. It didn't matter how much she'd come, he would always find himself scared. It was the effect Inner had on people.
"What a pathetic excuse for a shinobi, who couldn't even save his friend." That was it, he ran like there was no tomorrow through the quiet streets. The Place suddenly glowed around him; he saw faces, wandering aimlessly bodies floating in the air. Their hollowed eyes turned to face him, sweat poured down his skin like rain and his heart pounded in his chest. Running straight through them, he heard a deep, dark chuckle behind him. He begun to panic even more. "You can't run from the inevitable, Shika-kun."
Shikamaru saw the clan compound ahead, he dashed into the main building into his room. The spectres were still wandering around, she stood in the center of it all. Red eyes gleaming she lashed out and screamed an unholy, inhumane sound. She spoke in a dark, demonic tone,
"You couldn't even save Ino." She laughed, before she could touch him, the Nara downed two pills; immediately everything disappeared. He looked around, wiping the sweat from his forehead, panting heavily.
"I...have...have to find Naruto!" He breathed out, never minding the tears cascading down his chin. And with that, he set off to find the knuckleheaded ninja.

"How does it feel to be in chains, hiding from the world above, Ino?"
"Shut Up!"
