The Hero

○●○●

6 months later

The empty sky seemed unwelcoming to his nerves. Perhaps it was the alcohol that left a bitter taste. It burned his throat leaving behind only a dull ache. He sighed again for the umpteenth time. Naruto stood atop the fourth's head, gazing over the once peaceful village hidden in the leaves; with hooded eyes and a stone cold expression.

What a load of shit.

He took another swig of sake, contemplating his next move. Or rather, how he would actually reach there.

Sasuke is no where to be found. Kiba is missing and the Akatsuki is making their move. Konoha is in ruin. He cursed under his breath. How?

How can he fix this?

Can it be fixed?

Why? Why is it always me?

Why must I suffer?

"Because that's my ninja way..."he chanted to himself, but it sounded empty, his voice contradicted his words. He was the son of the Fourth Hokage, student of one of the legendary sannin. He was the hero. It was his destiny. His duty to die for a blind ideology that never existed.

Hero.

He took another swing at the bottle, the alcohol stung his throat as his dull, cerulean eyes looked on ahead. I'm supposed to be the hero? The thought lingered in his mind much more longer than he would've expected, or more than he would've enjoyed. His face twisted into a frown. So many things, so little time to fix it all.

"Keep frowning like that and you'll get wrinkles faster Naru-kun." He sighed, a soft smile masked the war waging in his mindscape. "It's just grown up stuff Kura." His eyes crinkled at the sides at the pinkette who stood less than half a meter tall. She gazed up at him innocently, heterochromatic eyes glinting in the sunlight, "What grown up stuff?" A jade and crimson eyes bore into his, curiosity being the main reason.

He chuckled to himself and bent to her eye level, ruffling her soft bubblegum hair he spoke, "Some day I'll tell you, but not now. Okay?" She seemed satisfied with the answer given and squeaked out a simple 'okay!'. He watched as her frame flickered and glitched like a dying light, his mind wandering far, far away.

Some day, he promised. I'll put you back together.

"I am no hero. Heroes don't come back. A survivor returns. Heroes never come home. If anyone thinks I'm a hero, I'm not."
