Poppy's PoV
"I'm not leaving you in this pain Calum." I stood strong as I headed over to the door and lifted one of the slats of the blind to see how bad it was looking. I caught the eye of Jack, the other bodyguard, and nodded at him. I unbolted the door quickly and yanked him in the room by his jacket. "Lock the door behind you." I said as I pushed my way out of the room, pushing the paps back with me. I heard the door bolt and relief washed over me, at least Calum was safe. I carried on pushing past the paps who suddenly realised who I was, and realised it suddenly wasn't as easy as I was hoping.
"It's Poppy!" "Poppy, some questions for you?" "Can you tell us about Calum?"
"Excuse me please, I'm trying to do my job. No comment." I said as I got past them and headed for the reception. "Any news on security?" I whispered to the receptionist.
"They're on their way but it's a busy night. They said he should have his own security." My jaw dropped in shock before anger took over and I leant over the desk and reached for the phone, dialling security again.
"Hello security."
"Yeah, can someone please give me an update on who is coming to the ward to get rid of the paparazzi?" I didn't bother with pleasantries after hearing what they had said. They were lucky I wasn't swearing at them.
"We're really busy today and-"
"Unless you're telling me at least one person is coming to help I'm going to put in a huge complaint. One of the nurses is being followed around by them asking her questions and they're disrupting everyone else in the ward." I snapped at them, fed up of excuses. I ran my hand over my hair as I tried to remain calm. I held my hand over the bottom of the phone as I spoke to the receptionist. "Tell Mavis I need medication in the side room." They rushed off quickly.
"We can have someone there within a couple of minutes." The security said before hanging up the phone quickly. I shook my head in disbelief before turning round to see the paps heading towards me.
"Poppy, tell us about your relationship with Calum?" "How do you feel that he's making friends with you because he's so lonely? That's why he ended up here, drinking his feelings." My gut sunk as they continued to question me and tell me things I wasn't sure whether or not to believe. I made sure my face didn't give anything away as I walked away from them, meeting Mavis in the middle who quickly handed me the medication I needed to give Calum.
"Something made us jump, he caught his ankle again. We may need someone to check it's still okay." I whispered to her as I gave her a hug, hearing clicks of the cameras behind us. "Just don't say anything." I said quickly before I turned and headed back to the room, the paps following me instantly.
"Poppy, are you and Calum more than friends?" "How have you found caring for him?" "Has his temper upset you at all?"
"No comment." I said, throwing a hand up to try and silence them. I slipped the medication into my pocket as I rushed towards the door. Stopping in front of it and knocking loudly on the door, waiting for Jack to open the door for me... but he didn't. "Jack? Calum?" I shouted towards the door as I knocked again. I could hear Calum shouting at Jack to open the door but obviously he wasn't going to. He was clearly more concerned with Calum's safety from the paps than he was with Calum's health otherwise he'd have opened the door. Idiot. I turned round and realised the five paps were now surrounding me, cameras and recorders held up to my face. I was backed against the wall, I had nowhere to escape to. Panic set in as I realised I was literally stuck with them.
"A few questions?" One said, recorder held right by my lips.
"No comment. Just let me care for my patient." I repeated what I had with Stacey in the bathrooms, not knowing what else to say.
"Is it true that Calum's broken his ankle?"
"I cannot discuss any patient details with anyone other than the patient." I said like a robot.
"Has he been a difficult patient?"
"No." I stated, realising I shouldn't have answered that question. I mentally facepalmed as I got annoyed at myself. "No comment."
"Is he interested in you?" They stepped closer, closing in on me with every question. I began to feel claustrophobic as their faces came too close for comfort.
"He got drunk that night because he was lonely and all his band mates had people. Rumour has it he said he was going to date the next woman he spoke to. What do you think of that?"
"Have any people been to visit him?" The cameras were inches from my face now. Sweat began to bead on my forehead and my palms, showing my nerves as I panicked that I wasn't going to get out of this without fucking up.
"Rumour has it another of his band mates has a thing for you. What would you say to that?"
"No comment." I said as I kicked my foot against the door one more time.
"I don't think he wants to let you back in." One laughed.
"Alright, break it up! Get out of here!" A familiar voice caught my attention and from the back of the crowd I saw Dave and another security guard making their way through, shoving the paps out of the way and finally giving me air to breathe.
"Oh thank god!" I breathed out, tears in my eyes as Dave finally came to my rescue.
"Leave the poor nurse alone." The security guard shouted as he grabbed a couple of them and pulled them away.
"Are you okay, Poppy?" Dave's face was full of concern. I let out a small smile.
"Dave I could hug you." I said in a laugh. "Your mate won't let me back in, I asked him to lock the door so the paps wouldn't get in but he won't let me in either. I need to give Calum-" Realising the paps could still be listening I just pulled the vial from my pocket and put it back in.
"Is he hurt?" He questioned quickly and I let out a small nod, hoping the paps weren't paying attention. He quickly banged on the door, attracting everyone's attention again. "Jack it's Dave." Within a second the door was unlocked and he pushed it open, yanking me in the room with him before he shut and locked the door once more. I was about to start screaming at Jack, but Dave seemed to get their first.
"Jack? What the fuck?"
