Chapter 8: Thunder

I was brought out of my sleep by a crack of thunder. I was startled but it's not like I was scared of thunder or anything so I tired to get back to sleep. Hence the word tried, Luna had jumped on by bed and forced me awake.

"Hey girl, what's the matter?" I ask and she nudges my head to look to my doorway. I was surprised to see Karamatsu. "H-Hey. Sorry she probably woke you up because of me." He says and I noticed that he seemed scared. "It's..Okay she usually wakes me up when she senses something wrong..Are you okay?" I ask before he could answer thunder cracked across the sky and I saw him jump.

"Oh that explains it. She sensed that you were scared of the storm outside. Right?" I say petting Luna. "N-No. I'm not scared.." I sigh and motion him to come over. He does and I scoot over petting the spot beside me.

He seemed embarrassed and surprised before I ask "why don't you sleep here with me tonight? Then you won't be so scared." He hesitated but when thunder struck again he jumped forward onto the bed and hugged me.

I smile and lay down on my side while he kept his hold on me. I reached my hand up and ran it through his hair. "Why are you afraid?" I ask in a curious tone. He looked away shyly "I..I just don't like the sudden sound...It may sound childish but I'm still afraid of sudden loud noises like that."

I sigh and kiss his forehead. "Honey, it's not childish. To be fair I don't like thunder either. But you'll be okay. You want to know why?" I ask as I pull covers over us "why?" He asks as my dogs snuggle up next to us. I smile and kiss his cheek.

"Because I am here. I'll protect you because I love you, no matter what."

He let out a soft sigh and snuggle closer to me. At least he had a smile on his face though.

I hope that smile lasts for a while.
