age 15

as we were now both in high school, we began to make some newer friends. we were still as close as we had been before and still saw eachother most weekends.

lannan and i were part of the same friendship group at school so we were still spending time together during lunchtimes. in this group, were a mix of different people, both boys and girls.

however, there was one boy in our group who i had taken a liking to. his name was ethan and he was really sweet. although he'd never said how he felt, it seemed as though he felt the same way as me.

i had obviously told lannan and the rest of our friends that i liked him and they all supported me.

it was one of our friends called jess' birthday and because it was saturday and we didn't have school, she invited us all round her house for a party at 6:30pm.

it was 5pm so i started to get ready. i brushed through my hair and straightened it, letting it flow down. i applied a small amount of makeup, just to cover up the dark circles around my eyes and some of my spots.

i then went to my wardrobe and looked through the clothes that i had, eventually deciding on some black skinny jeans and a white slightly cropped top.

by the time i was ready, lannan was at my door, waiting for me so we could walk to jess' house together.

"hey lannan" i smiled as i saw him

"hi, you look nice" he smiled back

"thankyou, i like the way you've done your hair" i replied, noticing how he had styled it in a quiff, which was different to his normal style of letting it sit flat.

"i might keep it like this. jarrad said it looks cool" he smiled

"you ready to go?" i asked, picking up my phone

"yup" he replied and we walked out the door, towards jess' house.

"so, ethan's obviously gonna be there. do you think you'll tell him?" he asked, out of the blue

"i don't know. i want to, but i don't know what he'd say. i do like him but he seems like a bit of a player and i don't want to get hurt. anyway, i'm worried he'll turn me down" i sighed

"i don't think he'd turn you down, but he does have a bit of a bad history with girls" he replied

"i just want someone who makes me really happy"

"yeah. you deserve it" he blushed

we eventually reached jess' house. everyone else were already there and waiting for us.

we started the music and began to have fun, dancing and laughing.

i could see lannan looking at me every so often, making me blush. everyone was dancing together and i felt a hand hold my wrist and pull me away from everyone else. i turned around to see it was lannan.

he took me into the kitchen where we could actually hear each other over the music.

"what's up?" i asked him

"have you spoken to ethan yet?" he questioned me

"well, yeah i've spoken to him, but not about how i feel. why?" i replied

"because about 10 minutes ago he told me that he was gonna go and ask you something"

"oh right. i wonder what about" i thought out loud

"i think it's a bit obvious" he laughed

"yeah, i guess" i laughed back

"but, i brought you here because i wanted to do something before he spoke to you" he stuttered

"which is?" i asked, as he came up closer to me and slightly pressed his lips against mine.

although i liked ethan, i didn't want it to stop.

he pulled away and looked me in the eyes.

"i-i'm sorry if you didn't want that" he whispered

"i didn't mind it" i smiled "i actually quite liked it"

"really? what are you gonna do about ethan?" he replied

"i don't know. i'll just have to see when the time comes" i sighed and we walked back into the room.

we carried on dancing for a while longer. ethan came over to me, doing weird dances making me laugh.

"hey, can we go talk?" he asked. i nodded and we went into the kitchen

"what do you want to talk about?" i asked, trying to smile, knowing what was about to come

"i just wanted to say, you're a really nice girl, i've been thinking about you a lot. so i was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime?" he smiled

i thought about it for a couple seconds. do i really want a relationship with him? especially with his track record of cheating on previous girlfriends. or i could try to make things work with lannan. but i didn't want our friendship to change.

"i'm sorry ethan. i don't feel the same. you're still a really nice guy and i still want to be friends" i sighed

"it's lannan isn't it?" he replied with a hint of anger in his voice

"what? no? he's my best friend"

"you seem a bit more than friends" he replied and stormed out, through to the front door and left.

i re-entered the living room and explained to everyone what had happened, leaving out the part where me and lannan kissed. as soon as i said i turned ethan down, lannan had a small smile growing on his face.

we all spoke for a while after, before we all headed home.

me and lannan left together and began to walk home. because it was quite late, it started to get a bit cold and all i had was my thin top.

lannan must've noticed that i was shivering as he took off his hoodie and gave it to me.

"thankyou" i said, putting it on and leaning on his shoulder as we continued to walk home.

once we reached our houses, we said our goodbyes and separated up our driveways.
