forgotten - lazarbeam

it was the first day of school for lannan and i.

(a/n: primary school if you're in the uk so like age 5)

our school was only a short distance down the road so we walked there together with our parents.

we got to school and our parents waved us both off as we went through the gates for the first time. as soon as we entered, there was a bunch of kids that we had never seen before, running around.

lannan backed up, intimidated by the screams.

"what's wrong lenny?" i asked

"i don't know who they are" he replied

"you know me" i laughed

"yeah. but there's lots of other people here"

"we just have to stick together" i smiled

"(y/n)?" he replied

"yeah lenny?"

"promise we can be best friends forever?" he said

"i promise" i smiled and we pinky promised.

we rarely spoke to anyone else in our class unless we really had to. we got teased for it by our classmates, saying we had no friends and that we were boyfriend and girlfriend. lannan kept getting angry at them and i had to keep telling him to ignore them.

for a while, we could choose where we sat. lannan and i sat together, trying to sit separately from everyone else.

that was until one day, when we walked into the classroom, we noticed all the tables had been moved around. lannan and i stopped and looked at eachother, realising our table had been moved.

instead of smaller tables for 2-4 people, they were now big enough for 8 people on them. we all lined up and the teacher started to assign people to the tables.

"lannan, you will sit here" the teacher said, standing over a chair.

as we sat down, i prayed that i could sit with him. 2 seats remained and i still hadn't been called yet.

another girl was put next to lannan and there was 1 seat left on his table. the teacher was deciding who to put there, glancing at all of us.

when she said another persons name, my heart sank and lannan and i looked at each other. he stuck his bottom lip out at me.

i sat in my new seat and we kept glancing at each other. everyone else on my table kept talking to each other, leaving me out of their conversations. i could see lannan, also being excluded from what ever his table were talking about.

as soon as we were let out for lunch, i went over to lannan.

"i miss you lenny" i said

"i miss you too" he replied "we're still best friends though aren't we?"

"yeah obviously. forever" i smiled as we walked out to the playground.
