Maddie reached where the commotion had occurred: Mal was being berated by reporters again. She walked up to Ben who calmly ate an apple as he watched from a distance.

"Maddie!" A reporter talking to Mal called as Maddie's eyes widened as she walked closer, standing next to her newly blonde friend.

"Hi?" Maddie said as she was blinded by the cameras flashing.

"Maddie!" A reporter said. "How does it feel fitting into Auradon and not being called crazy?"

Correction: she was still called crazy though nobody dared call her it in front of Mal, Evie and the other VKs or in front of Ben and in front of the teachers...

Chad still managed.

"How does it feel being friends with the king?" Another reporter asked.

"What would you like to tell us about the identiy of your mother?"

The questions caught her off guard and just like Mal, she couldn't answer any of them.

Maddie's head started spinning as she backed away from the reporters, stopping once she reached Ben, taking a deep breath.

"Are you not going to help her?" Maddie asked, tilting her head to the side, twirling a strand of her hair with her finger. "They really shouldn't be asking questions like that."

"She got this." Ben said taking another bite from his apple. "She can handle herself. I don't always have to be the one who saves her. She can stand up for herself. And I know, their questions are kind of personal."

"I guess you're right:" Maddie asked though she was proven wrong by the next question that came out of the reporter's mouth.

"Is your mother still a lizard?" A reporter asked Mal, as none of them seemed to give her time to answer, each firing questions and hoping for answers. Mal blinked stunned by the amount of questions being thrown her way.

"You know what? I change my mind." Ben said, standing next to Mal as he answered the question. "We'll let you know if and when the situation changes."

"Did you ever think you'd be with a VK?" A reporter asked.

Ben looked at them, laughing dryly, half heartedly.

"We're done here." Ben said leaning down towards the microphone.

And good thing they were saved by the lovely Fairy Godmother who hushed the reporters as Evie swooped in beside  them.

"If you don't do a fitting right now you'll be dancing in a bathrobe." Evie said to Maddie and Mal who looked at her not knowing how to respond.

"Sorry." Mal said grabbing Maddie's wrist as she waved to Ben.

The three girls filed into the dorm room, Mal being placed onto the pedestal while Maddie tried her finished dress on. Mal flopped onto her bed, skimming through her spell book.

"I know Mal's secrets of fitting in, and Ben wouldn't like it one bit." Maddie said in a sing song voice to Mal as she tried on her dress.

"Haven't you guys had enough secrets between the two of you already?" Evie asked looking pointedly at Mal.

"You guys remember what I was like before I started using my spell book, I was a complete disaster." Mal said, shaking her head.

"Well, personally as your best friend. I strongly believe that this spell book," Evie took it out of her hands.

"Ah!" Mal said.

"It belongs in the museum along with my mirror."  Evie said. "Don't give me the face," Mal's expression turned sour. "You know I'm right."

"E's always right!" Maddie added, handing her dress on its hanger.

"Thank you Mads." Evie said.

"You don't ever miss running wild and just breaking all the rules?" Mal asked.

"Like stealing and lying and fighting?" Evie asked.

"Yeah!" Mal said.

"No!" Evie exclaimed. "Look at where we are, we're in Auradon! And we're Auradon girls now."

"See," Evie begins, wrapping an arm around Maddie and another around Mal. "This is this land of opportunity, we can be whatever we want to be here. So please, let's just leave the past in the past."  Maddie looked over from Evie to Mal, seeing her saddened face stare down at her feet.

"Besides," She starts again, picking up the yellow and blue heels off the desk in front of her, holding them up in front of her. "Look at the shoes! Look at them!"

"Killer." Mal said.

"Nice." Maddie said.

"Alright we'll be late for class. Let's go Alright?" Evie said, as Mal looked at Maddie.

"We'll catch up with you." Mal said. "In the courtyard."

"Okay." Evie said, shouldering her bag and heading out the door.

"Maddie." Mal said, sitting next to her. Maddie glanced st her waiting to her to continue.

"Yeah?" Maddie asked.

"I had this dream." Mal said. "And I uh heard you were good at telling what they meant from experience and stuff."

"Heah." Maddie said. "What did you dream about?"

"We were in Auradon and we were singing." Mal said.

"Who?" Maddie asked.

"Me and the other VKs." Mal said. "And we made apples and all the Auradonians started eating them and became evil and wicked. Then they started to dance along with us like zombies. It was so strange,"

"It sounds like you miss being on the Isle." Maddie said. "You miss the way things used to be and you're imagining Auradon fit into that image because they want you to fit in to their world."

"Wow." Mal said. "You're good."

"Thanks." Maddie said. "Like you said, I've learned from experience."

"Have you been having dreams lately?" Mal asked. "Gigi said she hadn't seen you have a nightmare in awhile."

"They just stopped." Maddie said. "After your mom got turned into a lizard and the barrier was repaired, they stopped. I don't know why they did. But they did."

"You should be happy," Mal said. "You can sleep through the night now."

"Yeah." Maddie said. "I guess you're right. Come on let's meet the others in the courtyard."

Mal and Maddie exited the dorm, shutting the door behind them.

The talk with Mal mace Maddie wonder if her dreams would ever return. Sure they'd been terrible and all but she missed them. Not the trouble they'd cause her.
