"Where's Mal? Maddie?" Carlos asked his voice slightly breaking, looking at Ben as he comes down the staircase.
Maddie looked away from Carlos, standing next to Crystal and Pandora.
"Don't ever do that again." Crystal said, gripping onto Maddie's hand. "Don't leave us like that ever again."
"You gave us a heart attack." Pandora said. "I don't know what you were thinking."
She hadn't been thinking at all. It had just all happened at the heat of the moment.
"She's not coming back." Ben said, looking at the floor, shuffling his feet together.
"Maddie." Evie said crushing her in a hug and watching both Maddie and Carlos kind of stare at each other awkwardly. Evie's smile slightly faded. Two of her best friends couldn't stand each other anymore. All because Carlos had done something stupid and wrecked their relationship.
"Give her some time, guys. A few hours to cool down." Jay said, leaning against the fence.
"I'll talk to her." Evie says, going to the com system to call out Mal's name. From the corner of her eye, Maddie sees Ben shuffle into the dimly lit alley. Maddie, Crystal and Pandora did the most logical thing and followed him.
"Ben," Maddie hissed, wrapping a hand around his wrist, pulling him to a stop.
"No." He says, keeping his back toward her as he slid his back down a wall. Maddie crouched beside him, patting the depressed boy on the shoulder, as he wouldn't meet her gaze.
"Hey," His hazel eyes are filled with sorrow as his gaze meets her dark brown orbs. "Everything is going to work out okay?"
"Why are we friends?" He asks, recieving a laugh from Maddie.
"Good question. I don't know." Maddie said, mockingly tapping a finger to her forehead, then snapping her fingers, and grinning at the king. Ben rolls his eyes as a smile finally comes across his face as he takes her hand to help him up.
"We need to get back, it's not safe out here for you." Crystal frowned, walking backwards as Ben tried to tell her where to go.
Three shadows blocked the path the trio needed to reach their friends.
"She's right, Ben." Sam said, as the King's eyes widened in recognition.
Maddie didn't recognize her as the Sam she'd seen hours before. She was a different person. Like she'd changed from the kind Sam and had gone back to the darker one. The one she only took on to give herself something to fit into Isle society.
She was one of the nicest people here and Maddie wanted to save her from herself.
She couldn't do that with any of her friends around. She couldn't get Sam to forget everything she knew and come to Auradon. Sam wanted to earn it, not just handed it because she was Evie's sister or Maddie's friend.
"It's not safe for royalty- especially the king- to be out on the Isle alone. You never know if theirs a person watching you." Harry said, a grin on his face as a wild gleam in his eyes.
Maddie wondered what Sam really saw in him. But she couldn't question her. Sam made her own decisions no matter how terrible they were and no matter how much she tried to ignore them.
"Sam, Harry." Maddie said, blocking Ben's path, whose eyebrows were knit in confusion. He was trying to connect the dots and it wasn't working out. None of the pieces fit together, it made no sense to him what was going on.
From his expression, it wasn't really working out for him.
He didn't know these other people that were with Sam.
"Gil." Harry called to the blonde haired boy, who'd been waiting for his order, hiding behind a crate. "Watch the king. While we talk to the princesses. Okay?"
"Okay." Gil saluted, excitedly then turned to the tied up Ben, "Hi I'm Gil, son of Gaston!"
Ben cringed at the name, Harry grabbed Sam's hand, leading her to the tied up princesses.
"What are we going to do with them." Harry asked. "They don't seem of importance."
"You do know who they are right?" Sam said, titling her head to the side, propping her hand under her elbow.
"I know that's Maddie." Harry said pointing to the Mad Hatter's daughter. "I don't know who they are. But I feel like I've seen them before."
He examined the two girls before it seemed to click in his brain.
"That's the daughter of Peter Pan." Harry said, pointing to the redhead. "And that's Snow White's daughter. Well then I guess they're important. Gil! Gonzo! Jonas!"
The other two pirates jumped from behind crates as Gil looked away from the king.
"Yeah?" Gil asked, tilting his head to the side and looking like a lost puppy it made Maddie's lips twitch into a smile.
"Take the king and the two princesses back to Uma." Sam said. Maddie's smile dropped at the words. Two princesses. What about her? As if reading her mind, Gil asked the very question.
"What about Maddie?" Gil asked as Sam resisted the thought of rolling her eyes, her lips pursed in a thin line.
"Desiree can take her to Quinn." Sam said. "Then both her and Uma can stop complaining."
Said pirate picked Maddie up and hauled her through the streets.
Maddie tried wiggling our of her grip and running away but bathe pirate's grip was strong and kept her in place.
Her mind suddenly went blank as she realized where she was headed. She was headed to Quinn.
All she could think of was oh no before her mind seemed to shut off and go into denial.
She couldn't think anymore. She felt numb. Her brain had frozen up at the thought of Quinn, and so had her body. She couldn't feel a thing. She couldn't hear a thing.
It was something she hadn't given much consideration to until she was looking at it straight in the face.
She wasn't ready to see Quinn here. Not now. Not ever.
