Material required:
Arhar ki daal
1 chopped onion
2 medium sized finely chopped tomatoes
Salt (Namak)
Turmeric (Haldi)
Red chilly powder (lal mirch powder)
Coriander powder (dhaniya powder)
(Serves: 3-4 people)
Wash the daal and soak it in water for atleast half an hour. This is done so as to soften it up.
How to make daal?
First of all, chop an onion.
Put some oil in a pressure cooker (after turning on the flame, ofcourse 😜) and let it heat a little bit and then add chopped onion to the oil. Saute it till the onion becomes light brown in colour.
Then add finely chopped tomatoes and saute it.
Add
turmeric - 1/3 spoon
Red chilly powder- 1/4 spoon
Corriander powder- 3/4th to 1 spoon
Salt (as per your taste)
Saute it for a minute.
The result that we get here is called "Chhaunk".
Take out the chhaunk from the pressure cooker and keep it in the bowl.
Now put the daal in the pressure cooker and add some water to it. (The water should be a little extra than you want to see in the final outcome as some of it will evaporate while being cooked.)
Give two whistles and then let it cook for a few minutes on low flame.
You won't be able to open the pressure cooker immediately because of the steam trapped inside. Let it cool down for sometime and when you are able to open it, mix the chhaunk.
Annnnddd, the daal is ready.
You can sprinkle corriander leaves on the top and serve it.
