Hey guys, so I am probably going to be posting on Sundays but I am going to be in the car for most of the day tomorrow so I figured I'd post a day early! I hope you enjoy, if you do please leave a comment and vote ❤.

I woke up later that afternoon. I stayed in bed for a few more minutes, the sound of Leo's soft snores calling me back to sleep. After an internal argument, I drug myself out of bed. I stumbled down the stairs and walked out the door. The April weather was just between hot and cold, but the rain had left a chill in the air. I made my way to the small pier on the lake and settled down on it. I pulled up my knees and leaned my head back to look at the sky.

The lake seemed to swirl, only intriguing me further. The dark water was familiar, yet foreign. I leaned forward now, wanting to get closer to the water. The birds seemed to get louder as I grew closer. I stretched out my hand, merely a few inches from the water. I was so close to toughing the water that I could nearly feel it pulsing.

"Care?" Leo called, "What're you doing Buttercup?"

I pulled my hand back, away from the water. Lucy padded up behind me, nudging my ribs.

"Just watching the lake."

He moved forward to sit next to me, but I stood, the trance of the lake broken. Now I saw it for what it was. Deep and dangerous. It has secrets and pieces too deep for me to ever find. Now that my mind was clear I could see it for what it was again, and I wanted to get away.

"It's almost like it has a mind of it's own, huh?" he asked.

"Hm?"

"There's so many parts too deep for us to ever find. And with all the storms, it stays that way. And it always looks so dark, you can barely see the bottom in the shallows. But we still find it appealing, in the summer we still swim here. And have picnics. And parts. It's insane, but we still do it. It's almost like the lake calls to us."

I just watched him. It was entirely true. We knew people had drowned in the lake. We knew some of them were never found, but we still went in.

"Well.." He started.

"A mighty deep subject."

He smiled.

"Not for the shallow minded."

"Alright," I said, standing up and holding my hand out for him, "lets go in and order a pizza."

He took my hand and we made our way into the house. When we went inside, Lucy padded into the kitchen, ready for a snack. I fed her while he called the pizza joint. When he walked in, I tossed him a bottle of water.

"What'd you order?"

He smiled and played along, we ordered the same thing every time.

"Three Meat Pizza for us and a plain cheese for your mom."

I leaned against the counter and gave him a smile. A faint whistling could be heard from outside. I knew the song, but it felt like a distant memory. As the tune continued I remembered the correlating words.

I used to play around with hearts that hastened at my call

But when I met that little girl I knew that I would fall

Poor little fool, oh yeah, I was a fool, uh huh

I turned to look out the window and saw a form waking along the distant edge. It felt like an old friend, calling to their side.
