first person; an min-ju

"I'm home!" I scream out into the apartment that me and my brother live in. our parents went missing when I was only 13 but my brother was 18 at that point so he was able to care for me these past few years. 

it was challenging at first because neither of us knew how to do things on our own, but now we both have plenty of knowledge on how to handle things.

currently I am 18 years old and my brother is 23 and is working all the time. I still go to school but work in a convenience store at weekends to earn money. we would be normal people but we also have a peculiar ability that we've always had. 

we can travel to a parallel universe.

it seems pretty weird, and it is. the alternate universe has day when we are at night which means we can often travel there. my brother stopped travelling there to focus on his job and earning money to support us, but I travel there every night.

in the alternate universe we also have a house however it is not as big as ours in our current universe. in both of the universes I have only two friends. sad, I know. in the current universe they are baek ji-heon and choi beom-gyu, whereas in the alternate universe they are hwang ja-jung and yoon san-ha.

my brother is never home so I don't know why I expect and answer whenever I come home. after taking off my jacket and shoes I walk through to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. after todays school day I honestly don't want to go back, but I say that about every school day. however tomorrow is friday and apparently we are getting some new students, and according to my friends they are incredibly good looking.

"oh my gosh, min-ju, you won't believe how good looking these boys are" ji-heon says, trying to shove a phone in my face which has a photo on of the new boys. "honestly ji-heon I don't really care for people, even if they are good-looking" I say, rolling my eyes for the seventeenth time that afternoon.

"okay but there are like eight of them? since when would the school accept so many students at once?" beom-gyu questions. "like, I get the fact that they are good-looking but that doesn't mean that they can just come into the school like some sort of gang." after successfully arriving at our classroom they seemed to stop talking about it. or at least thats what I thought until about half way through our free revision lesson.

"do you think they're single?" ji-heon asks me. "I don't know but if they find out that they already have a fan before even getting into the school I'm sure they'd be delighted." I say back hoping that she will drop it before I ended up dropping her.

"apparently they are coming tomorrow" beam-gyu tells us both after probably overhearing it from a group of girls crowded around a phone at the back of the class room. "do you think they're gay? surely one of them has to be." he says, which seems to scare ji-heon after her thinking that she may have had a chance, her face drops. 

"can we stop talking about them already, you guys are going to give me a headache" I seem to almost shout and ji-heon just scoffs at me. "just because you don't have a chance" she says with a small smirk earning a hit in the arm from beom-gyu. "hey you know I'm joking right, min-ju is really pretty and could probably get anyone she wants."

"yeah right." I say finally before going back to studying.

sigh. I have such weird friends. after grabbing myself a glass of water I head back the hall to my bedroom and place the water on my bedside table before getting undressed to go into the shower. while in the shower I put on my music playlist before deciding what to do in the alternate universe and whether I should not go for the night. 

after showing I get into some comfy clothes and drink some of my water before checking the time on my phone. 5:30pm. I should be able to sleep before I go to the alternate universe. I climb into my bedsheets silently thanking my teachers for not giving me any homework tonight because that means that I can spend more time than what I usually do in the alternate universe. 

the world there is quite dusty as it is almost like a desert, however it has a few spots of greenery here and there. there is no school which is good news to me however there are a few dangers to the area meaning that people mostly stay inside of their villages the whole time. the alternate universe doesn't seem to be as developed as our current universe so there are no big cities or smartphones but there are walkie talkies which seem to be the only remotely developed thing there that I know of.

some of the dangers include: large deadly animals that roam the desert land, smaller deals animals that roam the grassland and the gangs inside the villages. most of these villages are quite big and I personally wouldn't call them villages but that seems to be what every else there calls them so I just do the same. 

the gangs in the villages are the smallest danger but are still dangerous. in the village I live in there are three gangs. one of them is less of a gang and more of a group of people who hang out and always end up accidentally getting into trouble. the biggest gang is called 'nameless' and they tend to be the ones you'd need to avoid no matter what. anyone that seems to get in their way ends up in a bad place. the second biggest gang (they rival against nameless) are called 'the invisibles'. a lot of the time they don't cause much trouble and are much more helpful towards people that the nameless gang. however they are still just as deadly and if you get on the wrong side of them then you are probably not going to be alive too much longer. the final gang (that seem to act like less of a gang and more like a group of weirdos) are called 'ateez'. they are barely ever seen, but even when you do see them you never know what they really look like as they are always wearing masks and hats covering their faces.

its pretty wild. 

after setting an alarm for a few hours so that I can go to the alternate universe, I drift off to sleep.
