First Encounter

*Jin Li*
I stepped out of the airport. Took in the atmosphere of Seoul.

Seoul, my favorite city. I might have been in America for almost three years, but nothing beats Seoul.

I shivered. It's a nice Spring day. But the wind is awfully cold. And as always, I'm not dressed for the ocassion.

I saw a sign - small one - with my name. I went quickly to the nicely dressed old man, and -

Me: Ahjussi. Annyeong. Can you put the sign down now, please?

Chief Secretary Min: Miss, I really don't feel comfortable with how you address me.

Me: Nope, you can deny me of that Ahjussi. You're my only family. It's good to see you.

CS Min: Arraseo. It's good to see you too, miss. You look beautiful as always. Where are we going? Home?

Me: No. Please take me to the hotel.

*Jin*
So it was Kim Jin Li. Omo. She's my first crush. I didn't know that she was related to Tae. But now that I realize it - they do resemble each other a little. That same face shape.

He glances at his friend who was also deep into his thoughts.

What was her story again? Hmmmm — I remember she was starting to build her career. She had a good run with a drama. Aish, I forgot the name. Oh!

Tae: I know what you're thinking of. And yes, she's the fiancee of Lee Min Ho. There, I said it.

Jin: Jinja? Mianhe. I was trying to remember what happened. How many years was it again, four?

Tae: Right about. I think so. I wonder why she's back. I thought she doesn't want to come home again. Her omma and appa were terribly worried about my Noona. She just packed her bags and left. Next thing we know - we saw her in American TV, doing some modeling. Then she became part of a show - where, you know how Western TV shows are more - uhm, open than the dramas we have in Seoul. She didn't really pursue it - she doesn't need the money. Aish. But I think she did that to take her mind off Minho. They've been practically together since they were 12. So just imagine.

Yes, I remember everything now. The big scandal — before that was the announcement that Kim Jin Li is set to wed Lee Min Ho, the biggest Hallyu actor. Then one party crushed Jin Li, when Min Ho broke up with her when he was drunk and apparently word leaked out in the media after a few hours. It didn't help that the girl, one from those girl groups, admitted that they have been having an affair for a long time, Jin recalled.

Jin: Yah, where are we going?

Tae: Shilla.

Jin: Why here? I thought she wants to hide.

Tae: Because they own this. And I bet you she'll be staying at the Penthouse. And Hyung, I may not be as rich as her, but we're still related.

The two went to the back entrance. Jin was surprised because he had been at this hotel a few times, but never thought that there's another way.

Tae approached the guard. The guard spoke to his earpiece, gave Tae a quick nod, and ushered for them to follow him. They went to the basement, then to another elevator where there's only two buttons - B1 and P. The guard used a card, pressed "P," and bowed down to the two boys.

Jin: (whistled) Man, I didn't know such door exists.

Tae: I used to go here a lot. But my parents don't want me to mooch off them - although noona's omma and appa are very fond of me because they only have one child. I'm like a son to them, and even if I'm way younger than my noona, I always see myself as a big brother.

Jin Li: (through the elevator's speaker) Yes because you are taller. Stop blaberring Tae. You don't know who's listening. What do you want to eat so I can order? And who are you talking to?

Tae: I'm with Jin Hyung, noona. And please order a lot. We're hungry.

Jin Li: Arraso. See you boys.

*Jin Li*
Staring at the window. I just got off the phone with my mom. She's genuinely happy to hear back from me. But I know she's wondering why I came home.

I think she knows the real reason.

Minho will be discharged from the military this year. Stupid, stupid me. I heard that his girlfriend also dumped him. Why am I here again? What do I need to prove?

I told my mom that I have some offers from agencies here in Seoul. I think she'll be happier knowing that I won't have to show skin again versus the shows in America.

I make another phone call —
Me: Yeoboseyo — Unnie, it's me. I'm back. Do you think you can get me a few shows? Let me know your plans, but jinjia money, fuck money (opens the door). You know that I don't need money. Just let me know what we'll do. I miss you. See you soon. But let me have a good quiet month all to myself first. Annyeong.

I saw Tae, and hugged him.

Me: Aigoo. You're really big now, like a man. You know that I don't want to make a scene at the airplane right. I heard that a famous band was with me on the flight, but I didn't know it was you. (sees Jin and smiles) Annyeong again, you have to forgive my Hangul. It's not good. But I'm on it.

Jin, before he was given a chance to speak, was interrupted by Tae who opened the door to reveal the food Jin Li has ordered.

Me: I got everything. Gamsamhnida. Can you please put everything in the sitting room?

The server appears starstruck, but obliged.

Jin: (mustering up the courage to speak) I'm Kim Seok Jin —

Me: And you're Mr. Worldwide Handsome, right? (warming up to Jin)

Jin: I wasn't going to say that but you got me. I know that this is a family reunion between the Kims. So if you need me to leave, I will. It's just that Tae brought me here. (shuffling his feet, while looking down)

Me: Come on, you're a Kim too right? Eat with us first. I don't think anyone has forgotten what happened to me, so that's not really a secret anymore.

*Taehyung*
He was looking at the exchange between his noona and hyung. Aigoo, why those two look good together. His noona, although already in her 30s, look really pretty. She does look like Song Hyekyo, but with an even delicate yet fierce face because of her Chinese genes. While his hyung, no doubt, was glowing. He knows that Jin worships his noona. He had been badgering me when we were starting out to introduce him to her.

His noona deserves a break. She deserves someone who will take care of her, but will she mind someone young? Aish, I need to talk to hyung to tone down his maknae antics.

Jin Li: Tae, why are you staring there? Come let's eat.

Jin: Tae?

Tae snapped out of his thoughts, smiled to himself. I think, I'm on to something here.

Tae: Coming. Aigoo. You got all my favorite food. You're really the best noona.
