Everyone was sleeping except for May. She kept on thinking about Thomas words about happiness. She began to question if she was really happy and—if she was, when she was.

She was happy when she prepared breakfast for June. When she prepared her for school, when they played with her old barbies. Everything connected with June except for—him.
The touch of his hand on hers, his brown eyes staring at her.

She turned her face and looked at James who was sleeping. She really cared about him but maybe Thomas was right—they weren't made for each other but she wasn't ready to take the consequences.

June would have suffered so the best thing she could think of was to endure over and over until this infatuation eventually left.

The phone rang so she stood up quickly and answered whispering.

"Hello?"
"May? I need to tell you something."
"Thomas why are you calling me this late-"
"Let me talk May, please" He said walking over the house.
"Go on" She said biting her nails.
"I am sorry if I've upset you today, I am glad to finally have you back in my life even if just as friends and I won't screw things up, not again, I promise you."

May felt butterflies into her stomach.

"May are you there?" Thomas asked with a frown.
"Thomas I- I need to see you."
"Sure, when? Tomorrow I am-"
"Now" she lowered her tone pleading him. "Please"
"I am picking you up in less than 20 minutes."

After than phone call, Thomas wore his blue shirt and beige pants and quickly grabbed his car keys. In less than 5 minutes he was ready to pick up the lost love of his life—better known as May.
-

"Are you ok?" Thomas asked May with a concerned look on his face.

"Yes" May said resting her head on her hand looking out of the window. Thomas slowly put an hand on her thigh and she turned around slowly to look his hand on her skin. She was feeling something she didn't feel for a long time.

"Don't lie to me, you know I know when you lie" She put her hand on his to let his hand stay exactly where it was. He parked his car right behind his apartment and undid his security belt to look at May that started talking.

"I love my daughter Tommy, I really do." some tears escaped her eyes. "I don't want her to hate me, I want her happiness"

"Hey May, I know." He said softly smiling to comfort me.

"I love her but I cannot pretend to love James, not when I-" She stopped softly wiping her tears.

"You what?" He frowned.

"I realized that some things never change. I thought I was over all of this stupid teenage drama. What I am trying to say is that I-" I glanced down then back to him.
"I still love you, Tommy."

I always did, he thought.

"But you have to take me home. Because I can't do this. I can't." Tears escaped her eyes. She really would have loved laying by his side and feel him close but she could not do something like this. He got closer to her and simply hugged her tightly as if she could easily go away and finally he spoke up.

"Anything for you

"Anything for you." And in a moment he started the engine and brought her home.
