I felt the warm sun shining on my face, as my eyes wanted to flutter open. My body hurt so bad that I was afraid to open my eyes. I heard someone calling my name trying to wake me. I just wanted to sleep until this was over. The darkness of sleep was peaceful. My eyes shot open as a bucket of cold water had been thrown on me.
"You're finally awake. I was beginning to think I was going to have to start looking for a place to dump your body." He said in an evil fit of laughter.
As I tried to sit up, I realized my hands were zip tied above my head to the headboard. He cut me free with a big knife.
"Here. Drink this." He said handing me a glass of water. I drank it greedily hoping for another. He threw my phone in my lap.
"You are going to call both of your bosses and quit your jobs. You will keep it on speaker and you better be convincing." He said placing my Glock 40 in his lap. "Your going to tell them that you're moving home today so we can get married."
"Ok-k-kay. I promise." I knew this was not the time to try anything.
"Don't fuck this up, Everleigh." He warned.
"Bonnie's Diner. How may I help you?" Bonnie, my boss, answered in her chipper voice. I had to fight the lump forming in my throat at hearing her voice.
"Hey Bonnie. It's Everleigh."
"Everleigh, you sound horrible. Are you all right, hun?"
"Um, yeah, I'm fine, more than fine actually. Blaze asked me to marry him last night and I said yes. I'm actually moving home today. I'm sorry I didn't give you any more notice than this."
"Oh, hun, that's great news!"
"Thank you." I said fighting back my tears.
"Well, good luck with everything. I hope you don't forget about us. We would love for you to pay us a visit."
"I will. And thank you for everything." Before I could say goodbye, Blaze takes the phone and ends the call.
"Next." He orders.
My fear grew as the phone rang. I knew if I wasn't very convincing, this would be the call to end my life.
"Hello? This better be good, Everleigh! You haven't let me know anything. I thought for sure you would be back last night." Zac huffed.
"Well, good morning to you too, sunshine." I tried to seem like my normal chipper self.
"Ev..." He growled.
"Well, I have some great news." I was surprising myself at how good I was playing this off.
"Before you start, let me just say thank you for making me be so worried that I decided that if I hadn't head from you by noon I was sending the sheriff over there."
"I...I..." I stammered. Blaze put the gun to my head hearing what Zac said.
"Look, I'm sorry,ok? Blaze asked me to marry him, so I've been a little busy."
"What the fuck? Why would you marry that asshat?" Zac said in shock. "I don't believe you. Is someone forcing you to say this?"
"No, I've been in love with him for awhile, but was too afraid of admitting it. I never thought he would move home with me."
"Seriously, does he have a gun to your head right now? This is complete bullshit!"
"I can't work for you anymore." I spat as tears rolled down my face at what he just said. He didn't realize how true his words were.
"Did he hurt you? I know he's making you say this. Am I on speak... oh god." He cut hisself off as he realized what was going on.
"Zac, can't you just be happy for me?" I cry-yelled as Blaze cocked the gun. "This is what I want, and if you can't be happy for me then just stay out of my life!"
"I get it. I can't be your friend because I can't fake my happiness for you. I really hope you are happy. I've got to go. Goodbye, Everleigh." He said then the phone went dead.
His words cut like a knife, but as long as he's safe, I can deal with what's to come next for me. I know Blaze is jealous of Zac, but I'm the only one that knows that Zac prefers men. It's not my secret to tell so I will take it to my grave.
Blaze was furious from the things he heard Zac say. As soon as Zac ended the call, Blaze snatched my phone from me and stomped it into the floor. He roughly zip tied my hands to the bed post. An evil sound escaped from his body, and he jumped up on me, straddling me, sending another punch to my face. I began to cry when I heard the front door slam. I didn't cry because of the pain. I welcomed the pain because it showed me I was still alive. I cried for my family... and Kade. I just wanted to be able to see them one last time. I knew he was going to kill me soon. I didn't know if he would do it in cold blood or if it would be the beatings to finish me off.
