As the sun began to set, I went inside and locked my doors and windows. I was nervous to be spending my first night alone, especially after everything had happened. There was a knock at the front door. I started walking to see who was at the door when someone knocked on the window. I froze. There was a knock at another window, on the other side of the house. Someone was definitely fucking with me. I grabbed my Glock and hid in the darkness of the hallway. If they got in they would not be getting out.
I slipped my phone out of my pocket.
"Hello? What's up?"
"Someone is here. They are knocking on all the doors and windows." I whispered as calm as I could.
"Find a place to hide! I'm on my way! Aspen, Send the cops to Ev's house! We are on our way." Cameron informed me.
"I have to hang up so my phone doesn't give me away." I said ending the call.
The knocking stopped suddenly. It was eerily quite for a few moments. Then I heard glass break. Then is was quiet again. My insides were shaking but my hand was steady. Steady enough to hit my target if it came to that.
I don't know how much time had passed before I heard gravel popping beneath the tires of a vehicle. I was pretty sure it was Cameron but I wouldn't move until I heard his voice.
"Everleigh! Everleigh, where are you?" Kade said in a panic.
"I'm right here." I said coming out of my hiding spot.
"Are you alright?" Kade asked looking me over for any sign of wounds.
"I'm fine. No one came in. They just scared the shit out of me. They broke a window or something."
"What do you mean 'they'? Did you get a look at them?"
"No. The knocking started on the front door than immediately at the back door. There was no way one person had enough time to move to all of the different places they were knocking. They also knocked on the doors and windows all at once. Then it all stopped at once, then I heard glass break."
"This is why you shouldn't be here alone." He said giving me a stern look.
"They didn't do anything but try to scare me. I wonder who has it out for me? Did you tell anyone I moved out here?" I asked remembering what Gauge had said.
"No, not anyone but my parents." Kade said. "Fuck! I told Damon that day we were working in his garage." He hung his head, running his hand through his hair. "Fuck! I'm sorry, Ev. It was before the other stuff happened."
"It's okay. It's not like I said not to tell anyone. The only reason I asked was because the cops wanted to know who all knew I lived here. Maybe this will help." I said shrugging like it was no big deal.
"Looks like they threw a rock through your window."
Just then the living room lit up red and blue. The cops had arrived. We walked out on the porch to let them know we were all right. I explained to the officers what happened. One went in the house to look for evidence, a few look around the outside of the house, and some looked in the trees surrounding my house.
Cam, Zander, Kade, and I sat in the living room waiting on the cops to come in and talk to us. My phone began to ring. It was Gauge.
"Hello?" I said.
"Babe, are you all right?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Someone just tried to scare me."
"The Sheriff called me. I'm almost there. We need to talk."
