I made it over to Damon's house. He asked me to help him knock out a few jobs since he had been short handed this week. The guy he hired to run the garage while he ran the tow truck had been off work all week. The guy's wife had a baby.
I got out of the car and walked into the garage. Damon was already working on a pickup truck. He was standing on a square crate with his body bent under the hood of the truck. A rock station played on the radio.
"What's on the list today?" I asked as I walked up beside the truck he was working on.
"Got to clean the carburetor on this old piece of shit." He grumbled. "It's Sunday morning, why do you have such pep in your step?"
"The sooner I help you get this shit done, the sooner I get to go see my girl." I answered matter-of-factly.
"You got a girl, huh? You finally give up on waiting on what's her name? Tabby has been asking about you but you need to stay as far away from that as you can."
"Her name is Everleigh. And no, I haven't given up on her. That's the one I can't wait to go see." I couldn't wipe the smile from my face.
"No shit? She finally moved back?" Damon asked.
"Yeah, she just bought the house on Mill Pond Road."
"Damn, dude. I thought you were wasting you're time. I figured she done moved on. I thought you were setting yourself up for a huge disappointment."
"Dude, she's it for me. If she had moved on, the only thing I could do is continue to sit back and wait for her."
"Damn, you got it bad. You're a good dude. I'm glad it worked out for you. You deserve it."
"Thanks, man. I do got it bad." I laughed.
"You hit it yet?"
"Dude!"
"Well, she's the one that got away. You were so hung up on her and never got to hit it. That was fucking weird!" He laughed.
"I've been staying with her since we got back together. I'm not fucking it up this time."
"We're men. That's what we do, we fuck shit up. It takes a hell of a women to put up with us." He laughed.

"Well, that's it. We got it all done. Let's call it a day." Damon said.
"Guess I'll go see my girl."
"Not so fast. You have to have a beer with me. We have to celebrate."
"Ok, but just one."
"Tabby, bring us a beer!" Damon hollered as we sat down on his porch.
Tabby brought us both an opened beer, and one for herself. She sat down close to me. Closer than I wanted her to be.
"I didn't know you were here." She said smiling at me.
"Yeah, that was kinda the point." I huffed before taking a sip of beer.
"Here's to you saving my ass today." Damon said as he held up his beer. we both took a swig. "Here's to getting your dream girl back!" He said doing the same.
