"Please call me Zelda." Link couldn't get that sentence out of his head. He had never really seen the princess up close. She was enchanting, he wished the day didn't end. The way she had smiled and laughed. Link could feel his face warm up, blushing, he gently shook his head as he made his way through his door in one of the rooms where he stayed, along with all the other knights that were in training.
He stripped his clothes that stunk of sweat and he quickly hopped into the shower. But while in the shower his mind just revolved around Zelda. He couldn't remember the last time he felt this way. Now it may seem cheesy and all but he really didn't have any interest in women where he came from. They never struck his fancy, but the moment he saw Zelda something just happened to him. These feelings didn't happen because she was a princess, no, that would be selfish beyond belief, it's just... A feeling of love.
After Link's extended shower, from over thinking on the whole situation. He dried himself off, threw on something to sleep in and tossed himself into bed. His dreams were swamped by his thoughts on Zelda, but something else happened in his dream that caused a rough sleep.
~Next morning~
Link awoke in a cold sweat. Maybe because he woke up on the floor? He couldn't really recall what caused him to have such a bad sleep. He slowly got up, off of the floor, and brushed himself off. Link made his way to the shower again.
Zelda was already up and dressed. She slowly walked along the walkway that was part of the castle roof. Zelda couldn't shake this feeling she had in the pit of her stomach. That was quickly fixed by some butterflies she suddenly felt when she saw a certain blonde haired knight. She couldn't stop the smile that danced on her face, and without hesitation she ran down to meet him.
Link slowly walked into the practice field, he was growing tired of it really. Suddenly he felt a small tap on his shoulder. Before he turned the corner of his lips turned up. Link spun around, Zelda.
"Good morning!" Her smile melted his heart,
"Morning, Princess." He grinned knowing what she was about to say next.
"I told you to call me Zelda." She crossed her arms trying to hold an angry expression. But the look Link was giving her, she couldn't help but chuckled.
"Okay, Zelda, what brought you down here?" His heart skipped when he said her name aloud. Next thing he knew Zelda grabbed his wrist and started dragging him out of sight.
"I want to thank you once more for saving me." She looked back to him with the biggest smile, she is beautiful.
"But you already thanked me." Link was confused for a moment then Zelda stopped after she knew they couldn't be seen.
"I want to take you out for a meal, and I couldn't wait for later tonight so let's go for breakfast." Link could almost see that she wanted to jump for joy.
"Alright! Sounds good to me." Link smiled and placed his hands on his hips,
"Where are we going then?" Zelda ran behind a pillar and pulled out a basket,
"How about a morning picnic?" Link smiled with a nod.
They walked together, side by side, smiling and laughing until they had found the perfect spot on top of a grassy hill, there was also a tree that made the most perfect shade for them. Together they set up their little picnic.
"So, what made you want to be a knight?" Zelda had handed Link some food she hand made. Link grabbed it and thanked her, taking a bite.
"Well, to be honest, I came from a small town and when I was little there was this strange man who came into town one day. They called him Raven, apparently he was a hero. When he was passing by he stopped right in front of me and got down from his horse. He bent down ruffled my hair, and then he gave me his pendant and whispered, 'You hold great things...' Then quietly got back on his horse and kept going." Link reached into his clothing and pulled out a small wooden carving that was attached to his neck by string.
"And that's when I decided I wanted to be a knight. He became my hero." He smiled softly, the carving was a flat piece of wood with a carving of the Triforce.
"That's a wonderful story, Link." Her smile was soft, Link could feel his face get warm. He smiled at how dumb he must of looked.
"But I must ask, what about your parents?" Link looked away then up to the sky,
"Unfortunately they passed when I was only a baby. I stayed with my grandparents." Zelda looked down.
"My parents passed away when I was only a baby too." Link looked back to her,
"Would that be a reason why you fight, even though you are a princess?" She nodded gently.
"My father had gone to war but as the castle was unprotected by him my mother and I were attacked, my mother found a place to hide me. It felt like years before Impa found me in that hiding place. After that, once I was old enough, I vowed myself to fight for my parents." Link grinned,
"That's actually nice to hear, the fact that you would stray from the natural path of a princess to avenge your parents." Zelda looked at him surprised, then she smiled,
"Yes, I suppose it is nice."
As the day went on they had finished the food and drinks. Without them even knowing they had actually sat closer to each other then when they first got to the hill. They sat together watching the clouds. Link felt someone lean on his shoulder, he looked down to see Zelda resting her head. His face became hot, he was probably red as Din.
He noticed even Zelda had a shade of pink to her cheeks. Link felt his hand move, as if on its own. All thoughts vanished from his head as his fingers touched Zelda's chin. She looked up at him, seeing the redness in his cheeks, it only increased the colour in hers. They didn't speak, Link kept moving his hand, now with Zelda's chin in his grip. Link slowly bent down and pulled Zelda up, Zelda can feel his breath, they are only inches away. Zelda's eyes had begin to flutter close, as Link's eyes were already shut.
"Princess! There you are!" Impa came running up the hill. Both of their eyes shot open and they backed away from each other as Impa approached.
"What is it, Impa?" Zelda quickly stood seeing the look in her eyes.
"The castle! It's being attacked!!" Zelda's eyes grew wide and Link shot up onto his feet,
"What!?" They both said in unison, as they all bolted toward the castle. Zelda stopped in her tracks once she saw how much destruction was already caused.
"No... NO!" Zelda ran toward the hoard that was attacking, her rapier out and ready,
"Zelda wait!" Link ran quickly behind her as he unsheathed his sword. They finally made it to the castle as Zelda instantly let a light arrow massacre a huge mob that was attacking some knights, they thanked her.
Link rushed in and done, from looks of it, a spin attack and took out even more. A huge battle raged on and Link and Zelda ended up back to back.
"Link," Zelda panted,
"Do you think... We can do this?" She looked over her shoulder slightly. Link was quiet and focused for a moment, then she saw him nod,
"Of course we can... We just need to stay together." Zelda nodded as a huge group of enemies came charging at the two.
The leapt from each other's backs and attacked. Finally, after what seemed like years, the battle was over. They had won, but not by much.
"Did we loose any?" Zelda spoke in a hushed voice, Link could hear the fear.
"About sixteen, Princess..." Impa had heard her, Zelda fell to the floor and she chocked. The tears started to flow with ease, though she was silent. Link walked over to her slowly,
"Zelda...?" He reached out a hand, Zelda only stood up and left in silence.
