Zelda couldn't sleep all night. The feeling of having abandoned her castle at its time in need. Tears flowed from her eyes with ease, yet she still made no sound with it. There was a gentle knock at her door that snapped her out of it.
"C-Come in..." Zelda didn't move, she just starred at her feet. The door opened slowly and in the doorway stood Link.
"Zelda?" Her head shot up and at the sight of him she started to cry more. This time it wasn't so silent. Link ran to her side and held her in a hug.
"It's okay now, I'm here." He gently whispered, it seemed to ease her a little. Link gently rubbed her back,
"This is my home, I let everyone down." She spoke behind a chocked voice.
"You didn't let anyone down, we just weren't there." He could feel Zelda grip his shirt,
"Sixteen people, Link... I have let down sixteen of my people." Then that's when Zelda pushed away from Link.
"We shouldn't have left the castle! I shouldn't have been so careless!" Link's heart stung at her words, maybe she was right, maybe they shouldn't have gone.
"Zelda," Link reached for her hand but pulled it back by standing up,
"This is my home! And I just invited those things in!" Zelda was slipping into a blind rage.
"There was no way you would have kno-"
"That doesn't matter! Now because of me sixteen people are dead!" Her voice grew loud and forceful, then dropped to a whisper.
"Because of me... I have failed..." Zelda looked down as tears dripped down off of her chin. She reached up to clean her face until she felt two arms wrap around her. Link held her in a tight embrace.
"I never want to hear you say that again." His voice was quiet, it was hard to hear him.
"You haven't failed anyone Zelda, people die, you can't help that!" Zelda could feel him start to shake, only lightly.
"You haven't failed..." In that moment something wet hit her skin, tears. Link had started to silently cry on her shoulder.
"Link..." She wanted to wrap her arms around him, but he backed away.
"Maybe we should keep our distance from each other." Link quickly rejected the tears. He walked toward the door.
"You know, just in case." Link didn't want to look back as he opened the door,
"I'm sorry..." His voice cracked a little as he walked out. Zelda at her arm stretched out as if she wanted to stop him,
"L-Link... Come back."
~Three months later~
Link was finally graduated from a training knight to a full knight. He was given a green tunic and a long green hat. Some under protection for the tunic and other necessities. Link was pretty happy that he was now a full knight. It's been three months now that he left Zelda's room, he blamed himself for what had happened although he knew it was stupid for him to do so.
Everyday he thought of Zelda, he didn't know why. Link wasn't sure if he loved her or if he just missed her. Suddenly a hand was placed on his shoulder, he turned.
"I wanted to say congratulations." Zelda. Her voice was like heaven to him, her porcelain features. There was no doubt, he loved this woman. Link couldn't stop himself from throwing his arms around her, embracing her.
"I missed you so much..." Zelda blushed deeply at his words as his hug came as a shock to her.
"It was only three months, Link." His grip tightened and Zelda smiled, placing her arms back around him. After he pulled away he blushed deeply, scratching the back of his head,
"Sorry... I guess each day that passed just felt like years." After Link realized what came from his mouth he shut it quickly and blushed deeply. Zelda just chuckled,
"Well I can't say that I didn't miss you too." Link looked at her, surprised,
"Really? I thought I was a nuisance for you." She gently shook her head,
"Before you left that day I wanted you to stay, to be there for me because I felt safe around you. I have never cried in front of someone like that, not even Impa." Link's eyes widened slightly in disbelief. She trusted him, his heart quickened.
"That outfit really suits you, you know!" Link looked away slightly,
"Heh, thanks. It's a little embarre-" When he looked back to Zelda she was holding out a blue scarf. As the scarf ended it had a small strip of red with the Hylian crest embroidered into it, it was also complimented by red tassels.
"What is this?" Zelda started to wrap it around him, leaving it to hang low behind him.
"I thought it was missing something, so I made this scarf." Zelda smiled sweetly as Link ran her fingers along it.
"It's wonderful." He was practically speechless. There haven't been any attacks on the castle or anywhere else within these three months. Link took a deep breath,
"Let's go somewhere, let's do something! We've been apart for a long time and I don't need to train anymore! Plus I want to learn more about you." Zelda looked hesitant,
"But, Link, I can't leave the castle." Link grabbed her hand and pulled her with him.
"It'll be okay! Trust me." She didn't protest, instead she smiled and ran along with him. Link took her along some small twisted path up a hill.
"Where are we going, Link?"
"You'll see in just a few more steps." He smiled as he kept walking.
Finally that reached the top. The path was covered with trees so Zelda had no clue where they were going. As Link led her up to a certain spot she could see all of Hyrule.
"I found this place about a month ago, it's a nice spot to think. You can also see if anything or anyone is approaching and make it down in time." Zelda looked to Link with gratitude,
"It's wonderful." Link smiled and shrugged slightly.
"It really is." She looked out at the beautiful scenery, the wind blew through her hair. Link looked over at her and blushed.
She's smart, beautiful, and talented. She said she feels safe around me, and she missed me! Link's thoughts started to run. He quickly looked away and out at the field, the sun was just setting.
He's handsome, strong, and very kind hearted. I like the feeling of being around him. I never want to leave his side. Zelda couldn't keep those thoughts away when she looked at his chiseled features. Zelda then slowly looked back out onto Hyrule. Zelda suddenly felt someone grab her hand and instantly pull her in. She was pressed against a strong chest, Link. Zelda looked up at him, his face looked soft, yet his eyes were intense.
Zelda could feel a hand slowly run up her back, sending chills down her spine. Suddenly she was inches away from his face. His breath was calm, she was praying he couldn't feel her heart beating.
"L-Link..." She spoke breathlessly. She was hushed by his lips softly being pressed on hers.
His lips... So soft... Zelda slowly raised her arms to wrap around him.
Her lips... So sweet... Link somehow managed to bring her closer into his body. Their kiss gradually grew deeper. Everything in the world disappeared. Everything vanished from their thoughts. It was pure bliss. They never moved, they never stopped their lips from touching.
They broke the kiss in unison. Both lightly gasped for air. Zelda looked up to Link as he gazed at her. Link gently placed his forehead on hers and they both laughed.
"I love you..." They spoke together with a smile.
